Bike for My Significant Other
Looking for a little bit of help. I've got two road bikes a 2010 Trek 2.3 and a 1986 Cannondale SR900 for myself. My girlfriend enjoys to ride but doesn't really enjoy riding with me because she only has a Trek 4300 mountain bike. I'm wanting to pick her up a road bike so we can ride together more often. Would prefer something used and less than 6 or 700 bucks, cheaper the better. It doesn't have to be a super lightweight but I would like reliable components. Anybody have any suggestions for some bike models to look for in particular as opposed to blindly looking at all road bikes? I also think she'd enjoy a nice older bike however think she'd want brifters. Any help would be appreciated. May even sell my 2.3 and a Hardrock in order to fund the purchase and to help build up a Yelli Screamy MTB. Thanks ahead of time.

Take her to performance bike and her have ride a few different models. Regardless of the brands we suggest it is all going to come down to how the bike fits.
I only suggested performance due to the in store sale they are having on their bikes and since it is the off season in many locales you have a good chance of landing a bargain.
FWIW I have a 2009 Fuji Roubaix and I love it, so one of my recommended bikes would be a Fuji.

cool tape job on that 2.3
My wife loves her Specialized Sequoia. Very no-serious, try out the road thing, kind of bike. Don't know if your SO will want something more serious.

Your significant other is your bike.... It is always with you, it won't tell you no, it won't complain, you and the bike are one.... Oh you mean your wife or gf my mistake. Anywho check craigslist or eBay, plenty of great deals around right now since some people think its too cold to ride.

We went to the local LBS and bought a lower end women's specific Trek. 8 spd brifters. This worked out well for me. I told her when I got a new bike she could have my 10 spd group off my old bike and the lighter wheels. I really like my new bike.

here's what it all boils down to. She's a woman. It has to look cute. Once you find a cute bike then it's all about the components. She's not going to ride with you if you're riding the Trek and she's riding something with DT shifters. You could definitely find something at Performance in your range or even over at the other bike website.
Ask yourself this, would you want her picking out your bike based on her tastes?

I gather that you're more into cycling than her. I think it would be nicer of you and cozier if you try to "lower" yourself to a MTB than pushing her up to a road bike. You can bring yourself to enjoy every bike. She might not.
And a MTB would be handier in winter.

I let my wife pick out her bike and when we ride I use my singlespeed/fixie because it's easier to match her speed with it than with my road bike. The ride is all about spending time together; not how fast we can go. My fixie also has a rack that's useful for carrying a picnic lunch.

thanks for the advice, think I'm gonna just keep perusing CL and Ebay, as mentioned it has to be cute, fit, and preferably 105 or comparable group. and yes in that order haha.
