Man, not sure why people are getting so up in arms about this. Aluminum welds are lumpy. You can smooth them out but that's just cosmetics. It has no bearing on the strength of the welds. Op just got a new ride. To me a new bike is always a good thing. Not sure if all the negative comments are warranted.

Anyway, on topic, big lumpy aluminum welds are ugly and make a bike look like a Walmart bike. My Giant has smooth welds, and it's pure class.

Having done a ton of welding (ARC, Oxyacetylene, MIG), I can say the welds on my Spooky are beautiful. Craftsmanship at work, and any comparison to the inconsistent booger welds found on Walmart bikes and the like shows a lack of knowledge of the welding process from a direct hands on experience. Now personal preference and aesthetics are person to person, so if someone doesn't like how they look, fine. But don't compare to the crap at dept. stores.
Again, congrats on the Spooky!! Hotness in motion...

Holy **** this thread is a train wreck.
Nice bike by the way, I dig seeing the welds, but I'm a welder by trade. Aluminum is a ***** to weld beautifully, and while those welds aren't perfect, they certainly are nice. You can just turd down whatever you like if you're going to sand and fill it, however. Much more honest to show the weld bead.
Some don't like it, and that is why there are so many different frames on the market
Besides the crater in the stop, this is what your looking for.
As for the ME comment, your title really doesn't matter, there are people in all professions that have not a clue. Let your work prove your worth and knowledge

If all those welds were so full of win, why would they grind them off? And all the people who have smoothed aluminum bikes that are so awesome, why don't they have plastic bikes?

something about the geometry of the frame I just dont care for. maybe its the angle of this picture. I agree with you though, car enthusiest's always take pictures from the corners and at all sorts of angles. When it comes to bikes, a straight profile view usually seems to be best.

Damn lots of hate in the thread. OP congrats on the bike. It should make you very happy. Here is a pic of mine:
These bikes are light and stiff. I've raced mine a few times and it's great.
Saw someone asking about Tsunami as well. I had one of those that was stolen. Another great builder for the budget minded. Bike was less stiff than the Spooky and a little heavier, but I'm sure they can make you one lighter and stiffer if that's what a buyer wanted. That's the beauty of a custom bike. This was mine.
Spooky as a name has been around for a while. I still have a shirt from about 1994 from Spooky that I got at a mountain bike race. Anyway, jealous of the new rig OP.
Cheers
Rob
