My PSImet's

I rode a couple of over the counter wheelsets through the summer/fall and I was noticing a lot of wheel flex, more from my 6'2" and 225 lbs than from bad wheels..

After filling out the short quote request info on the PSImet website I received an email from Rob with a couple of recommended options that would work for my size. He also mentioned that he had a couple of training wheelsets he made for his sponsored team that were never claimed and since they were already built up they would ship much faster.

The Wheels:
Novatech hubs, Kinlin rims (27mm front/30mm rear), Dt-comp spokes 28f/2x - 32r/3x

The wheels were shipped right before turkey day that slowed the delivery a little, but they did show up a couple of days past what I thought they would. Rob shipped them in individual boxes that were packed with great care for there journey to Virginia.
I carefully unpacked them and my first impression was how beautiful and solid they were, and still being light.

After I freed them from there cardboard travel cases I told the wife to get her shoes on so we could go down to my LBS and get the actual weight of my new babies (and take her to dinner). I walked into my LBS carrying my babies in each hand and handed them to the shop owner who really liked them and one of his team riders feel in love with them and kept picking them up every time I put them down.

They put them on the scale for me and they came out to 1742 grams actual weight, not bad since Rob quoted me a weight of 1735 grams. Not the lightest wheels and no weight weenie would even think twice about these, but at 225 I'm no light weight anyway.

I put off writing about these wheels until I put a few miles on them and only have just over 100 miles on them to date, but let me tell ya they are outstanding and with the higher spoke count don't flex at all..

They are high gloss black, ride very smooth and really look damn sexy...

Though I don't know Rob personally, he is a great guy to deal with and puts out and excellent product that should last me for years.

Thanks Rob....

PS: I like the idea of having a second set of wheels, so looking at PSImet and a couple of other builders at this time..

The extra 7 grams probably come from sausage grease that Rob spilled while building them :p

Rob,

Can I get some decals like that? I have a set of your wheels (WI hubs, XR-300 rims, DT spokes) and have the one "PSIMET" in the back and the one "P" in the front.

Bob

congrats..

side note-- curious to hear your impressions of the Pro4 once you've ridden them a bit.

It does my heart good to see a front wheel that's not radially laced.

Thanks everyone...

I love the ride of the Pro 3's and the Pro 4's seem to give the same ride to me. The big thing I did notice so far was how well they grab the road. My first ride on them was also my first ride on my PSImet's.
At first I thought the sounds I was hearing were the spokes getting seated to there first rider, but come to find out it was the Pro 4's picking up road debris and the sound was this debris hitting the bottom of my frames downtube. Nothing major, but a light tick, tick as it bounced off the carbon tube.

So far I love them and looking forward to putting many more miles on them..

I remember, just this January, I weighed at 220-230 lbs. I'm happy to have lost a lot of weight so that I have options of buying lighter wheelsets. I now weigh at 180 lbs., looking to be at 170 by New Years...

Rob is a great guy. Very helpful. I've bought two wheelsets from him and am just looking for an excuse to order another.

Those compliment the Raleigh very nicely!
Did you step up and go with his tubular carbon this time :) You got me looking at them now Mr Wales....well at least the carbon clinchers. Saving my pennies for when I can justify a set someday :D

M_Wales 12-18-11 08:23 AM

Hey bud....

I went with another set of alloy clinchers, since I have no business on carbons at all... His wheels are really nice and worth a close look for your next wheel purchase...

PS: We need to ride again soon....
