Problems with Cycling Shoes
 

I am creating a cycling shoe for road cyclist. I am looking for issues and problems during different types of weather when cycling. The idea I had was to add a cover to the shoe itself that would be able to snap off and on. That you could be put into a pocket when it wasnt in use. the other idea was that the cover would be attached but you can fold it over to the side when you didnt need. I would appreciate it if you could give me ideas why this wouldnt work and if you would use it? thank you and appreciate your thoughts. please dont be afraid to put too much information

Now SIDI and other cycling shoe behemoths are gonna steal your ideas.

I don't think I'd use that because I'd much rather choose the shoe I want, and then add one of the dozens of shoe covers already for sale which easily go on/off the shoe within 30 seconds.

I'm confused there, newb.

What do you expect this cover to do? Keep you warmer, more dry, more aero?

When is this assignment due?

I usually put toe covers on in the fall and leave them there. If it's cold <3C I'll add booties on top. I don't need or want to fool around with my shoes mid ride. If I miscalculate and the temperature is too warm I can always unzip the booties.

This sounds like it could be really cool. If it works out, I might buy some.

What have you NOT seen on other cycling shoes that you would want on your shoes? A snap-on cover? Why would you want anything that snaps on when the hook and loop seems a much better idea (may attract dirt and really ugly) then there are the slip-on covers. What would make your shoe stand out against the market? Snap-on covers will not be IT.

Why would you want it to fold to the side? Picture that in your head! Extra stuff flapping around on the side when the snaps fail. Where on the shoe are you going to add more stuff for attachments and why?

Make a shoe with a sliding vent cover so you can close off the vent hole in the sole without having to tape it when it gets cold out (or mid-ride).

thank you everyone for helping me out design the shoe. I created the thread to see what real cyclist would like. Your help has help me come up with a new innovative cycling shoe. Thank you. I have changed the idea of an outside cover to interchangeable soles. When I am done with the project. I will put a link on the thread for all you to see what the final concept looks like.

one sole might be a tyvek high top full cover sole while the other one will be a regular sole. So the shoe will be a high performance super light carbon fiber shoe sold at a midrange price range

Sidi already did this with their Ergo 3 shoe. The toe vent can be closed up via a sliding rubberized plate.

You could make a shoe upper out of the stuff Fizik used for their new Kurve saddle. Then the whole shoe would be carbon fiber and everyone would go batty over it.
