Cervélo founders cashing out or distress sale?

Cervélo & Pon make 'financing arrangement': http://www.bicycleretailer.com/news/...tail/6310.html

Dutch conglomerate Pon, which recently bought Derby Cycle, has agreed to 'a financing arrangement' with Cervélo and has retained an exclusive option to purchase the Canadian company.

Cervélo announced the agreement late Friday on its website:

Cervélo has entered into a financing arrangement with PON Holdings BV. In addition, Cervélo and PON have signed a Letter of Intent that enables both parties to agree on a sale of Cervélo in exclusivity.

Maybe that is the reason for cash back deal. It sounds like the end of a boutique brand. The new owners could do well if they cut price and keep the quality.

I searched the site for Pon and didn't get any hits. Sorry if it's been posted.

Financing deal with an option to buy might be good for Cervelo. It would allow Cervelo the cash infusion to stay in the picture, both in the Garmin Cervelo team status and in product development.

I'm confused....is cervelo going out of business or something?

It appears they are selling the business to a Dutch company, Pon. Could be similar to Dorel buying Cannondale a few years back.

three... so far.

All someone has to do is mention a forum member whose name starts with a P and we'll have a double hat trick.

Cervelo will soon be selling hybrids and kid bikes like Trek.

boostieboy 12-24-11 01:32 PM

What is Pcad going to do?

DropDeadFred 12-24-11 01:49 PM

roadiejorge 12-24-11 02:33 PM

hmmmmm, in a few years my S1 may be considered collectable as an example of "Pre-PON" Cervelo?

ColorChange 12-24-11 04:13 PM

I really don't like the sound of this at he surface. I hope they come out with some press releases soon. I may hold off on upgrading my SLC-SL to a S5 VWD till I get more comfortable.

Why? The sale wouldn't change the current stock. Are you concerned with warranty issues?

VA_Esquire 12-24-11 05:13 PM

^ from speaking with a few friends about their cracked frames.....yeah.

I don't own one but I'm curious. Is that an issue with Cervelo in general or specific models? Cracks in the same place?

pelotonracer 12-24-11 05:24 PM

Mostly R3 BB's.

VA_Esquire 12-24-11 05:49 PM

RS as well. Derailleur hanger snapped on a replacement frame after 2 months.

dnuzzomueller 12-24-11 05:56 PM

no offense but if you snap a derailleur hanger isn't that more of a question of the hanger / what you might have bumped the bike into, then the frame itself?

rbart4506 12-24-11 06:13 PM

Don't get what the big deal is right now...Cannondale seems to be doing ok...

thehammerdog 12-24-11 06:58 PM

how is it a bad thing? Stuff already made in China I'm guessing. More $ more Support = better bikes?
