Ksyrium Elite front spokes question

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Ksyrium Elite front spokes question

A number of the spokes on the front wheel, right and left side, are turned roughly 45 degrees from being in line with the rim, ie they're going towards what would be the opposite of the normal "aero-bladed" position. The wheel has a tiny tiny wobble relative to the brake shoes so it's true enough...anyone else using these wheels? I didn't check the position of every spoke before I started riding them so I have no idea if this is how they are designed, or if I could turn the offset spokes slightly to have them in line with the rim without affecting something else.

Is the wheel new? Or did you buy it used?

What you are describing sounds to me as if somebody tried truing the wheel without holding the bladed spokes in place. And that means the spokes have twisted during true.

To prevent spoke twist, you have to hold the spoke in place with some kind of holder while turning the spoke nipple with a spoke wrench.

I bought both of them new for $400. Would there even be an effect on speed from 6-7 turned spokes? I remember reading aero-bladed wheels are sometimes the least aero. Lol.

Then somebody must have turned the spokes inadvertently during an effort to true. The spokes should not be in a 45^ deviation from the rim plane.

I would take it to a bicycle shop for them to correct the problem, unless you know how to do it yourself.

DO NOT MAKE MATTERS WORSE.

In my experience (I've owned two sets of Ksyrium Elites since 2006) it's not necessary for someone to do this to the spokes, this can happen JRA. About every six months I notice a spoke or two has twisted of its own accord.

Wow! I have never seen that b/4. I have owned an SSC SL and Ksyrium ES for a while. Will have to keep an eye on them.

Bear in mind that the Elites are a lower-end wheelset than either the SSC SL or the ES; perhaps that explains this propensity to suck?

I have seen this more when the spokes are too far below tension. If they are properly trued and up to tension they stay pretty well put. One or two might twist a bit... a few degrees, but it is the under-tension that causes the problem.

also the only difference between the elites and the ssc sl is the purdy aluminium spokes and the purdy hub casing. same hoop and bearings.
