And cheap doesn't mean modern either. That's an outdated computer -- no GPS, no heart rate, no data download, and wired cadence. Add on ugly, and there are all your reasons that at least half a decade after production stopped you can still find them on clearance.
I use a Garmin Edge 500. It's worth the extra $340.

Garmin 500. Love it.
You can get the Garmin 200 if you want most of the features but a lot less.

It was cheap ($50. at the time installed).
It worked and served me well.
It's down to less than $40.
For the money, IMO, it's hard to beat.

But, I wanted something that was easier to read. I was strongly considering a Garmin 500.
I came across the Kurt Kinetic Power Wireless Computer which wasn't really wireless afterall.
The cadence sensor is wired, but I had that ripped off as soon as I saw it. I have no need for cadence.
It has a much better display than the Cateye did and I got it at a ridiculously discounted price of $59.
It's packed full of features (watts measurement, heart rate monitor, etc...) which I doubt I'll ever use.
I don't see any reason to upgrade from it unless I need the GPS features of a Garmin.

I'll upgrade when something better comes along. A touchscreen would be nice.
What's important to me is the basics (speed, avg mph, time, etc...) and display.
Accuracy is the absolute MOST important feature to me above all.
I have been wanting a watch bike computer though with GPS tracking
just to get the computer & sensor off of the bike and clean it up a bit.

Garmin Edge 800 - in truth I don't use the "normal" computer features (heart rate, cadence) except for speed.
I bought it for the GPS stuff - in particular on-board route planning.

Behind EVERYone!!!
Speciaized Speed Zone Sport Wireless. It does everything I NEED it to do, plus I love the stem mount.

Cheers,

Fuji Roubaix: Sigma BC 1606L with cadence wired.
Cannondale Bad Boy: Sigma BC 1609 STS wireless
Cannondale mountain bike: Sigma BC 1609 wired
They all work great and have had zero issues. Read good things about Cateye, however the computer came with the Fuji and the other two were found on sale so I ended up with all Sigmas.

Polar CS400. Occasionally use Strava with my iphone. Strava WAY overestimates elevation gain.

As noted in my signature...
I have used it for only about a month. When I went from 10sp Centaur to 11sp Chorus, my ErgoBrain was made obsolete. It could still be used for speed and cadence, but the gear indicator would be non-functional. So far, the CatEye is doing well. I never used the cadence feature much on the ErgoBrain, so it has been a real revelation to have that and the heart rate information.
One complaint involves the receiver/processor unit placement. I use clipless pedals and can only release by moving my heels inward. If I do this with the left pedal at about 3 o'clock, I sometimes hit the receiver/processor unit and knock it out of alignment.
My other complaint deals with starting the unit. Other units that I have had begin working when there is movement. This CatEye has to be turned on manually and I'm in the process of remembering to doing this. However, sometimes I forget and perhaps a couple of miles will pss before I remember.

PowerTap for power numbers. Hours & effort are all that matter to me.
Otherwise, I wouldn't bother with a "regular" computer for speed, miles etc...
