What bike computer do YOU use?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Planet Bike Protege 8.0. Does everything I currently need and has proven to be very durable. Somewhere done the line, I'll spring for a Garmin.

I'm using a Vetta V100A: time, speed, distance, cadence, altimeter. Works great, now that I've ditched the wireless s**t. Thinking very seriously about a high-end Garmin Edge (705 or 800) so I can have all that plus HR and power(eventually) in the same unit, and have the capability to up- and down-load routes. (The electronic cue-sheet thing'd be nice on brevets, etc)

Garmin Forerunner 305 + HRM. Don't really need cadence anymore (was using a Cateye Strada Wireless). I'll upgrade to a Edge 500 when/if I get a power meter?

Plus, the Forerunner can easily come along for my run.

Garmin Edge 500, replaced my Shimano SC6501 bike computer that finally gave up the ghost after many years of faithful service. I absolutely love the Garmin (I also have the HR Monitor and Cadence/Speed sensor)

Got a CatEye Vectra, front and rear lights in a bundle today for $50. I realized I needed a rear light after a close call with a car yesterday, so I thought I'd just get the computer along with it

Toe Peak wired bottom of the line that was on special at Amazon. Going to an iPhone and an app/mount system soon.

I really want one of those old, super-precise Avocets:

But until I can find one I'm using this:

Cost me $29 and has speed and cadence!

Sigma BC 2209, triple wireless. No GPS. I have GPS data from my smartphone in my jersey pocket. That's the theory, at least... we will see in 2012 how this combo works out for me.

Pros & Cons:
+ cheaper than Garmin 500 (docking station + computer with HR strap, cadence & speed = $152 shipped)
+ computer smaller than Garmin 500
- no GPS for breadcrumbs
-- cannot customize screens
+ displays more than 3 items on screen, fairly legibly, in compact format
- HR can show max or average, not current
- not ANT+
+/- does have barometric altimeter
- exports only in .sgf (sigma proprietary) or .csv format
+ wireless speed and cadence have enough signal strength to work fine on my 61cm bike

Well, crap. Now that I wrote all that I feel like I should've just saved my $150 and put another $100 into it to get a Garmin 500 with the sensors.

The Enduro 8 is the same as my Mighty 8, except that the Enduro comes with thicker insulation on the wire. Completely adequate, but certainly not a high-tech toy. I have considered the Garmin that folks have mentioned but I seem to prefer to spend my money on wheelsets and consumables (cassettes, chains, tires, tubes, cables, bar tape, saddles, etc.). I guess I'll get the Garmin when I finally get the power meter.

VDO C3 DS from Nashbar

https://www.nashbar.com/bikes/Product...1_10000_202553

Wireless and I got the cadence kit as well. I bought it on supersale from them. Paid $17.95 and then $8 for the cadence kit. Works great for me, but I wouldnt pay more than $30 for the set.

Garmin 500 with HR and Cadence used with my Power Tap SL+....... flawless and extremely user friendly. Had it now for almost 2 years and like it the best.
Agree with "after wheels, it is the best money spent".

Bontrager Trip 4w just to keep track of speed/time and odometer.

Now with long trips, I use my phone app....but....being interested in the Garmin 500, are there any rumors to replacing this unit with a newer model?

I don't see that happening. Garmin produced the 305 and 705 for a while after the 500 and 800 were introduced. The 305 and 705 finally went away 3-5 months ago, and nothing to replace the 500 and 800 has been talked about... other than inside of Garmin, I assume.
