Weight Limit

With all the new advances in the cycling world, do any of you think that the UCI/TDF will drop the current weight limit of 14.8lbs? I think the 14.8lb bike weight is perfect

Why is it perfect?

I don't think they will drop the restriction but that's just an uneducated guess. Contest between men not machines and all that. Personally I think it's a little silly though and the pros should be allowed to ride bikes of any weight they want.

the weight is low at 14.8lbs and is still very durable and not skiddish/twitchy

Maybe the manufacturers will push for it. The way things are now, the consumer can buy a 'better' bike than a pro can ride. That's not great for the purposes of showcasing product.

I can't imagine anyone else cares, tho. Surely the riders don't, the UCI has historically been reluctant to embrace new technology, and I don't know why the other sponsors would be interested.

I guess I don't see it happening. The bike makers are generally not primary sponsors. Certainly there are exceptions, but I don't think there's enough clout there to change anyone's mind.

Zero would be perfect.
