Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

3T Ergonova bars- size

Those that run the 3T Ergonova bar probably know that the sizing is a little funny on them. My current bars that came on my bike are 44cm. I understand that the Ergonova bars are ~2cm narrower on the hoods than on the drops. This being the case, would I be better off getting a 46cm so I maintain 44cm on the hoods or going with a 44cm and dropping to 42cm at the hoods? I spend almost equal time on the hoods and the drops.
TIA

To the best of my knowledge the largest size Ergonova 3T make is 44cm C-C at the drops. If you've seen 46cm that weren't measured outside-outside can you point me in the direction of who has them?

They are a full size small. Other bars have drops that flare outwards at a similar angle (or even more), yet are true to rated size.

I once put a 42cm Ergonova fully inside -- not touching the drops at all -- a 44cm FSA Omega Compact. I'm currently riding said 42cm Ergonova and have some 44cm FSA SL-K on the way to me. I originally tried the 3T because my dad gave it to me, not realizing that it was so small and thus I was going down not 2cm from my usual size, but instead 4.

Whoops. Maybe I'll toss the Ergonova on wifey's bike, her 51cm Dolce came with Spesh 40cm bars.

I believe Art's is actually stating the size on the drops, which is misleading. If you go to 3ttt.com you'll see that 3T lists the following sizes:

38, 40, 42, 44 cm

Where Art's lists:

40,42,44,46cm

Make sense?

Actually if you look at the description on 3T's site, I agree with you. The text only lists up to 44.

But if you pull down the menu to purchase a bar, you'll see 46cm in there for the Ergonova Team and Pro. Only as big in the 44 for the LTD though.

So I believe the 46cm does exist and it should be the size of pretty much everyone else's 44cm bar.

I run straight 42's on my race bike .. but 42cm ergonova's on my trainer. The 3T's are about 2cm narrower at the hoods than at the ends (and in this case would be 40 - 42cm). I personally like the sizing on them and do not see a huge difference between my two bikes. It is actually kind of nice to have more room around my arm when in the drops too. FWIW .. my shoulders were sized at 42cm.

3T has the 46cm listed at the bottom in the drop down menu where you can order direct. At least for the Pro (38, 44, 46)and Team models (38, 40, 42, 46)...

Art's is great!! I just received my first purchase from them, and without asking, they include a paid return UPS lable just in case I need to return something. Fast shipping, etc. Very happy with them.
