Moto Ti or Cervelo RS - Both Rival - Both $1600
OK, my LBS doesn't have an RS in my size to ride, so I'd be shooting blind. I can't test ride a BD bike, either.
I'm 44, will be done with chemo in March, need to get back in shape and never plan on racing. The Moto Ti has great reviews, and with med bills, is at the very top of what I would be able to spend on a bike. Actually, I'd rather not spend the money right now, however, if this deal is too good to pass up, then I could make it work. The RS is the same price right now. Average rides of 25-50 miles and occasional centuries. Want to do a local mountain climb once in a while, too.
I don't flip my stuff often. My cars are 02 and 05 and have no plans on changing anytime soon. Same wife for past 18 years. No plans on any changes there, either!
EDIT: And other than "duh", why?

Yes, however, I'm always eager to learn. I've read nothing but positive reviews of the Ti frame. People say it's lively yet comfortable and I've been told by one person who has owned both the Moto Ti and a Lynskey that he could not tell the difference in ride. I've never had the opportunity to ride either, so I have nothing to draw upon. So, where else do I turn for advice? My LBS who sells Cervélo? Hmmm, wonder what he's going to say! However, reading into your response, I'm going to assume another vote for the RS.

I'd take the moto Ti, personally. I LOVE Ti, and it'll last longer than any of us assuming its treated the way it deserves. BD isn't my favorite company tactics-wise, but you can't argue with their value.

According to the Cervelo web site, the RS is the full bike at $2,600. There are no options but that equipment. The Cervelo deal is $1,000 discount only if you buy 2 Cervelos, either yourself or with a buddy. That's how you came up with $1,600.
The RS may be running out of stock inventory because I think Cervelo stopped production on the RS. The R3 will take its place.
Most riders who buy a Cervelo will usually change the components and then the price goes up. Its easy to up the total cost of a Cervelo if you get a more expensive groupset and wheels.

Your post indicates that you'd rather not spend the money right now. If thats the case, the cervelo deal will be over, but the moto ti will, in all liklihood, still be available for the same price. No deal is too good pass up anyway. There will always be another good deal around the corner.

Either OP...no winner here. RS is a great bike. I own a Moto Ti 29er Fly that I also set up for road riding outside of winter...great bike.
Pick the one 'you' like the best.
Btw...also pick the one you think will fit the best. Reason I personally wouldn't choose the Moto Ti road bike, is the head tube is too short for me.
If you have average to shorter legs relative to your height, this maybe ok. RS geometry works better for me.
Congrats on getting through your cancer treatment it sounds like. I can't imagine what that would be like at your young age.

The RS is a nice carbon bike were as as the Moto is a off brand bike. The fact that you can purchase a quality carbon bike for that price is a deal!
Nothing wrong with Rival. RS all the way or a R3 if it does not cost that much more. The R3 is a much newer design but nothing wrong with the RS.

I vote for the RS, but mainly as a protest vote against anything from BD.

If you want to pick an off brand...buy a Cervelo. Cervelo these days is a bigger lottery than Motobecane.
That said I have nothing against Cervelo but the future of the brand if it matters is unclear.

My uninformed vote goes to the Motobecane. I've seen a couple of the Ti motos on the road, and I think like any Ti bike they are lovely to look at, much more so than a carbon Cervelo. I wonder what the total weight is like for each of these bikes?

This is a no brainer...I have a Sworks Venge and a Lynskey Ti. If one has to go it will be the Sworks. The Ti bike can be constantly updated with new decals and components. Scratches are scothbrited away. In 3 or 4 years the Raliegh or Cevelo or whatever there called will look outdated...

decals are under the clearcoat on the moto.
i looked very closely at getting the moto ti but ended up getting a caad10 instead. the cervelo is a deal, the ti bike will stay at that price.

Are you sure? Not on my Moto Fly Ti 29er. I took mine off. There is no clearcoat on the frame and would be quite surprised if the Ti Moto roadbike has any clearcoat either. Most sell Ti uncoated. As Whoosh said about his Lynskey which is indeed a nice Ti bike but more costly than a Moto, the frame can be cleaned up nicely with a Scotchbrite pad....looks like his is polished which can be done as well. I prefer more of a brushed look. My Ti Fly Moto has a medium luster...no decals...and btw one of the best hardtails on the market for the jack.

how recent is it? i emailed BD about it about 2 months ago and they said they have a clearcoat over the decals. i assume they wised up to everyone just removing their decals
