Boyd or Soul
30 mm Vitesse or Soul 3.0? Which would you get?

Boyd.

Of those 2, Boyd...

I like my Boyd's. Probably less of a wait getting them too.

If you're in the US I would do Boyd. There's no ocean between you and shipping and customer service. I might also recommend Rol. They're here in Austin and some great guys to work with.

I went with Psimet for a higher spoke count wheelset due to my size (6'2" @ 225 lbs), 28/2x front and 32/3x rear. Rob builds a very nice wheel and I ordered a second set that I hope to get near the end of the month with different hubs and spokes and the same spoke count, but much lighter. PSImet should be considered since all of his wheels are custom, but he is a one man show and has a lot of orders so it does take time. They are well worth the wait... |
Didnt consider Rol....but after having a quick look at their website the Boyds still seem to be a better option from both a price and weight perspective.

Bicycle Wheel Warehouse.

No brainer - Boyds. Forget the weight, the hubs may be the best part. I just recevived my 2nd set of Vitesse's.

To expand a little on the Boyd hubs.
The first time I mounted them on my bike, I had the bike on the bikestand and gave the wheels a good spin. The phone rang and I went inside to answer the phone. It must have been about 5 minutes later when I came out and the wheels were still spinning. I couldn't believe it. I had to go ask my wife if by any chance, she had spun them again. I have 5 bike and I have never owned hubs that spin like these hubs. |
Anyone have any experience w/ Boyd's carbon wheels?

It's odd they don't have a 50mm clincher. |
Don't think you can go wrong with either but i would say Boyd. Located here in the US, great customer service, no long wait times like Soul. I ordered a set of 50mm carbon clinchers from Boyd last Spring and their amazing. I've used them as an everyday wheelset and they haven't needed a single adjustment. Hubs are incredible on these, spin for days.

You probably can't go wrong with Boyd but others I would consider, besides Soul, would include Rol, Neuvation, Zen, November, and Revolution (Rev-22).

Thanx. |
Well I can only speak two the two options I picked. The Williams are great and have proven very durable to me. 2 days delivered from the day I paid per paypal. The Zen wheels I bought this summer have also been problem free so far. I'd say only a couple of thousand miles on them though so I won't comment on durability yet. Both pass the "spin forever" test but I am not sure if that really means anything, LOL!!

It's true that there can be a wait for Soul wheels. Personally, I went with Soul's because of the hubs, price, weight, and depth of the wheels I was looking for.
I got last year's C5.0's for $1340 after shipping. 50mm carbon wheel weighing in at 1350g. I was looking for a wheelset that I could use for everything; an aero wheel that I could also use for climbing. So the Soul C5.0 was the best option for me. Have had them for a year now and am totally satisfied with them. |
Been checking out the options....the Boyds still seem to be the leader of the pack. I like the 30mm depth, bladed spokes, price etc....
