Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

So if I mention the fact that i don't have a bike expensive enough to post in the hot or not thread or a bike that cost less than $2,000 to post in the budget hot or not thread that means I'm humbly swinging my e-dick? Got it.

Thanks rev!

Yes its the pro4 service course tires and my favorite tire for this bike. Found them in 23c (25c also available) all black on amazon before they started adding tax to orders. Looks the 23s went up a couple bucks.

FWIW, they're much cheaper here and here than on Amazon.

Just got new wheels. Only took it out for two miles to check them out quick, but they feel a lot more responsive than the stock ones.

I think it looks too busy with the decals on the wheels. I'd also angle the bars down more (+ black bar tape) and ditch the saddle suitcase, at least for the photo.

Stop using MS Paint...maybe try GIMP if you want to edit photos without paying for photoshop. MS Paint is not helping your bike look nice.

I'd remove the decals like you've done though, leave the R decal at the valve though. I'd also do black bartape and saddle and get some new cages.

The bars are comfortable there so they're not moving, and they are level on the top. I am considering moving the hoods to a more level plane when I change the bar tape next. The tape does match the seat (the top of the seat is red) so I'm not breaking any "rules" there, but the red is a bit off from the rest of the bike. I was bored with the black tape. I may or may not change colors next time around. I actually like the rim decals... You can't tell by the picture very well, but the colors are a perfect match. I'm going to leave them on unless they fade or get damaged.

Thanks for the input though!

Hey, it's your bike, you can set it up however you see fit. It's the Hot or Not thread though, and I'm just throwing out a few "hot" rules that it's breaking.

Meh, I could flip the stem too, but it wouldn't be representative of how I have it set up to ride.

How much did you get the frame etc for to make it under the $2k budget? I was looking at the sempre frames earlier this year when the sempre pros came out but they were still going for $1500.

Sweeeeeeet.

How do you like the 501? They were the frame to have when I was a kid. I have a 520 Bianchi right now and it just doesn't feel the same.

Thanks. It is a fun bike to ride. It is comfortable. I think that it is more interesting than a typical sora equip bike that you could pickup from Craigslist (which would have cost about the same).

Hot! I love how clean it is. I think changing to carbon/plastic cages will make it look a lot better. Those metal ones are detracting from the looks IMO.

Cost of about $1300. Campy Centaur, built 50 mm carbon tubulars using Chinese rims and hubs I had lying around, used frame. (front shown is a used Zipp, but the hub shell broke and I'm now using the homebuilt wheel)

Yes, that would also make it "hotter"

The point of this thread isn't to show us your functional bike, it's to set the bike up in the most aesthetically pleasing way:

Slammed stem
no saddle bag
no bottles in the cages
valves at 6pm
drops parallel to the ground
hoods level with tops
chain on the big ring up front, small ring in the back
crank in proper position
writing on tires positioned at valve stem
good saddle to bar drop
level saddle
bars, saddle, tires all same color
etc

...and even after all of that, people can still give your bike a "not" because it's too stock looking, too busy because of decals, wrong color bar tape, etc. It's just opinions though, its not like it even matters.

If that is the entire point of the thread it's a pretty stupid thread. It sounds like buying a Playboy where all the models pose in the exact same way and you judge their wank worthiness by how the color of their panties, heels, and bra set off their hair and eyes. Either I've been foolishly enjoying this thread for the wrong reasons or you take your rules too seriously.

LOL, don't let it bother you. But yes, that is kind of the point of this thread - to make your bike look as appealing as possible following as many as the above posted rules as possible. I think the Budget thread is a bit more lenient of these rules - the bikes in the normal Hot or Not thread take a real beating.
