Sometimes the end doesn't justify the means. However, everyone must realize that when men who used to be the bread-winners, protectors, and leaders of their households, suddenly feel old, slow, and physically ineffectual, many resort to carrying handguns. They usually carry something like a Beretta .32 cal. or a Ruger LCP .380 cal. Both are highly concealable and lethal.
Our elders are due respect and honor for raising their children successfully, being law-abiding citizens, being dutiful tax payers for decades, and in the case of most elderly gentlemen, for being veterans. Veterans, the very people who've sacrificed a portion of their youth to defend our country. We must now protect them.
Sometimes where the government fails to protect them, they are forced to once again, protect themselves. My only regret, would be that they might either act in haste, or accidently injure the wrong person(s).
PS.
Too bad we have so many wayward violent juveniles who express their own heart-felt pain by inflicting pain upon others. In most cases, others who wouldn't think to initiate any type of aggression against them.

Hopefully, when our kids read about these types of events, they will think twice before initiating any type of violence against anyone.
Hopefully, we all, as citizens of the world, will learn not to aggress upon others, making the use of war and weapons of all kinds unnecessary.
Hopefully, we all will have learned to make the earth a safer place for us all. A place where we all should have the right to expect to feel secure. We should all feel secure when we make errands, take walks, ride bicycles, establish businesses, attend institutions of learning, commute to work, etc..
- Slim
PS.
Criminals, sometimes become criminals due to the fact that they feel that they have a disproportionate advantage within a certain given situation. If you introduce an element of doubt, suddenly the perception of advantage is removed and opportunity becomes questionable.

I don't personally carry a gun. I do however carry mace! I am currently aware of far too many Vietnam veterans, who carry conceal weapons out of fear. They fear our youth, their gangs, and the criminal element in general. It's a shame that the criminal element is more likely to be armed, than law-abiding citizens. It's a shame that firearms are so readily available to everyone within this country.
The dead horse that we're beating is not related to where anybody carries a gun. The dead horse we're beating is more related to the availabilty of firearms within this country and how pervasively ubiqitous they all appear to be. Widespread use and accessibilty of firearms is clearly way out of control. So far out of control, that law-abiding citizens feel threatened and vulnerable without being armed, themselves.
There are those of us who saw this coming many years ago and we tried to curtail the proliferation of firearm production, as well as their accessibility to the general public. That effort was thwarted by a huge proponent of firearms advocacy. The horse that we should be beating is currently being ridden by a man named, David.

A lot of today's teens carry guns, so getting attacked by a teen could bring up the gun issue. In this case the older man was confronted with 3 teenagers, knowing he wasn't going to be able to defeat them physically and not knowing if they had a gun or would beat him to death or into a life long physical impairment, he did the right thing. He shot them. For that I applaud the him. He couldn't wait to see what if the kids would kill or maim or do nothing, nor could he wait for help, the time to respond was instant and he responded correctly.
It's a shame someone had to die, but the brat should have known not to attack someone, so he got what he deserved-the death sentence; the other will have some time to heal and think about his actions to see if it's something he may want to discontinue doing in the future.

I say Kudos to the guy and he should of killed all 3. They are nothing more than leaches on this society and will be until someone kills them or they rot in prison.
First rule of concealed weapons permit class.

I guess that's one way to teach today's juvenile delinquents to fear their elders and show some respect: shoot em.
