A $499 shoe is the top-seller at Nashbar!?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

A $499 shoe is the top-seller at Nashbar!?

As of right now, I went to Nashbar just to browse road bike shoes, and sorted by "Top Seller".

The top listing is a Lake CX401 Road Shoe for $499.99?!?

Is this for real? I'm sure it's a good shoe, but it strikes me as odd that a site like Nashbar, which is known much better for their discounts, is top-selling a very expensive shoe. Even if it's a huge discount, hard for me to believe many more people are buying a $499 road shoe online than a $300 Sidi.

Even if it's true, I wonder at whom would buy a Lake shoe over a SIDI at a similar price point.

weren't they blowing those out recently? Maybe an artifact of that. Bonktown had some great deals on Lakes because the U.S. distributor went out of business and sold everything

Probably somebody who's foot fit into a Lake better than a Sidi. As un-cool as buying for fit is, a few geeks still do it.

Wonder if they calculate top seller by total sales dollar amount or total sales in units....

If I'm paying $500 for a pair of shoes, they better know how to pedal by themselves.

I have often suspected that "top seller" is wishful thinking on the part of online sellers. It could probably be more accurately titled "Top profit margin item in this category"

I would. I like my new Lake Wides a lot more than my Sidi Megas. Stiffer, comfier and that boa retention works better than the Sidi ratchet system

Well, Kangaroo leather is some seriously nice stuff and probably most of the cost. Look up the stuff.
From what I saw there is also no Kangaroo farming, so the leather comes from wild animals hunted (by permit I think) in areas where population needs control.
