Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

rapha jacket

Anyone own the Rapha soft shell jacket. Seems like a good jacket, the comp cyclist guy who reviews it raves about it, but even with their 20% sale it's very expensive. Current sale also has a 30 day free return policy so I suppose I could send it back if I don't think its worth it. Anyone with experience

I have no doubt they make nice stuff but man is it expensive. I've been very happy with my gore jacket I got on sale for $130 (one with zip off sleeves).

I have the Rapha winter jersey, their Bomber Jacket, neck warmer and merino skull cap and it's all beautiful, top notch stuff. I saw the 20% off the jacket and am very tempted to buy it.... but I can't justify the cost. Everything else I got from them was on on major sale or was a gift so I didn't pay as much as you think. I love their products though and would buy it if I wasn't being careful with where I spend my money.....

I have it. I absolutely love it. I own a good deal of their road and city clothing and have not once regretted a purchase.

More than the quality though, I love how much they do for the cycling community. Especially here in SF with the Rapha Cycle Club. Weekend rides, coffee, awesome people.

I had it and the Pro Team Jacket until I moved to all Assos and Castelli. I liked both but preferred the Pro Team jacket. Unless you plan to ride a lot in the rain(extra water resistance and the pull down flap) or flat out prefer the look of the Classic Softshell, I think you should save the extra and just get the Pro Team jacket if they have your size, because I found both to be comparable in terms of warmth.

Yea I love their stuff too I have the cap, the gloves, winter jersey and the winter tights. The winter jersey is really more like a jacket than a jersey to me. Also love their socks. Been waiting for the jacket to go on sale. One issue is the jersey is so warm I dont know there would be many times when its cold enough to need the jacket over the jersey in Oklahoma winters

I have one; purchased in October for this winters riding. I didn't know what to expect, but I now love it. I wear it with a light merino long sleeve base layer from 37-50, easily able to adjust temp regulation using the underarm zips/vents, and cinching of waist elastic. With a ls base and a long sleeve, I have been down to low 20's without a problem (can't say the same about my feet though). Its a great jacket from low 20's to low 50's, expensive but worth it to me (with warranty and quality). Hope this helps.

Is Rapha the most expensive brand out there? I know Assos is up there too, but boy, their prices are crazy.

I like on how they're retro inspired though. I just wish they would "retro" their prices too.

I wore one about a month ago. it was fantastic! I wanted one so badly but couldn't force myself to pay the money. Most jackets get me to hot after 10 miles or so. The Rapha jacket was just right. buy it, you wont regret it!

Assos has 600$+ jackets, so no, Rapha is not the most expensive. They are up there, sure, but it's reflected in the quality, warranties, crash repair, customer service, and general badassness of the brand.

Ditto. Don't see anything about a sale on competitive cyclist's site right now.

Don't see it on the Rapha site either. Their winter sale - which I took advantage of - ended a few days ago.

Have it. Love it. If you can afford their gear it is a great investment. I have never been disappointed by their products. And their customer service is excellent also.
