Strava on Windows Phone 7 - yes we can!
As a cyclist, Strava matters to me
but there isn't an app for Windows Phone 7
and my bike computer doesn't have a GPS.
After searching for help on this and finding nothing useful, I thought it might help others if I explained how to get trips recorded on WP7 phones onto Strava. Note that this ISN'T a simple, one-step solution, but it's not that difficult either. This method requires a computer as well as your phone.
Interestingly, I've tried a number of times to post this method on the Strava help forum but it seems that they don't want this information shared and have not published my posts.
After testing a few apps, I eventually found one that can produce a .gpx file that can be uploaded to Strava: "Sports Tracker", which is available from the Marketplace. You also need to sign up for an account (free) at https://www.sports-tracker.com/
Once you have the app running on your phone, just start and end your "workout" and save the file on the phone, which sends it to the web site (data charges may apply etc etc etc). Log in there, view your workout and choose the "Export" option to save the .gpx file to your computer (being sure to note where it is saved).
Next, login to Strava and navigate to Upload and "Upload a file on your computer"; navigate to the file and upload it. When that is done, you can save the file from your "New activity" page.
Some notes on running Sports Tracker on your phone:
Hopefully this works for others too. Please share this info with others WP7 users and reply if you've found a simpler way to get this done!

Some notes on running Sports Tracker on your phone:
- the app is funny about recording rides and won't work if you try to do other things while it's running
- it works when I:
- - click "Start" and then switch the phone off
- - when finished, switch on the phone, "swipe up" from the home screen and then click "End"
- - immediately save the workout on the next screen
- it DOESN'T work if I don't do the above steps!
- I haven't had any workouts interrupted by calls, SMS, email or appointment reminders, so I don't know how these would affect a recording
Hopefully this works for others too. Please share this info with others WP7 users and reply if you've found a simpler way to get this done!

Just a quick addition:
I was told today that Endomondo works too, so I tested that on my commute home. Similar usability to Sports Tracker but perhaps a few added features. As with Sports Tracker, returning to the home screen will stop the recording.

The GPS DOES hit the battery life, but 2 hour rides are no problem at all - plenty of charge left after that. I have "battery saver" (under the Settings menu) switched on most of the time and normally only charge the phone every couple of days.

Have you guys tried putting your phone in airplane mode? It increases battery life drastically, but only some phones can record rides in airplane mode.
My Droid Incredible with a extended battery(~$10) and while on airplane mode recorded a full century(7.5 hours total) and I still had 40% battery remaining!

I'm also on a windows phone. breath of fresh air after the other devices i've had. But this will only devolve into a p*ssing contest because everyone knows the phone they happen to have purchased is the best phone in the whole world for ever and ever not listening not listening etc etc.
Thanks for the heads up on these apps.

I didn't even realize Strava had iPhone apps. I just got both of them (cycling and running) for free. Pretty sweet apps...
