2011 Felt F4, recall, and made in China...

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

2011 Felt F4, recall, and made in China...

So, my hunt for a bike continues, and on my journey I found a lovely Felt F4 for a nice price but low and behold it's got a recall on it, and to top it all off it's made in China. Damn Felt, I love you guys, but China? At least give the Taiwanese your business, they have integrity...

Felt frames are made by Giant, who also makes Treks frames, so what are you going to do? Felts are great bikes

I'm confused I guess, because I thought that most of the more reputable brands used Taiwanese manufacturing because quality control is better?

This recall is old. My bike is the 2011 felt f5. when I purchased it, it came with an Easton EC90SL fork, they already knew the fork was bad and sent out frames with no forks and had Easton direct ship the forks. What is the problem?

Not everything made in USA would have an excellent quality. As for manufacturing prowess, Chinese do have it. It's matter of the company selling these products that wants or desires the quality that decides how well it is made. Basically, to make really high quality frame in China... it isn't significantly cheaper to do than in Taiwan.

Great, thanks so much. I've been eying one on major auction site but it has the Felt UHC Advanced 100% Carbon fork. It's a sweet price and I've already sent the seller an email to inquire. Photos don't show an Easton Fork FYI...

my felt frame was made in taiwan, my buds cervelo is made in china. those companies actually know what they are doing when it comes to manufacturing carbon fiber. the same quality work done in america would double the price of the bike so i'll stick to my felt. i freaking love it.

It was a fork issue on the F series. Here is their recall notice. From my understanding Felt went to the plate making good on the forks.

RECALL NOTICE
IRVINE, CA (November 9, 2010) – Felt Bicycles announced today it will voluntarily recall forks on select 2011 F-series model bikes. The models affected are the 2011 Felt F3, F4, F5, F5 Team and F75 models. Felt dealers have already been informed of this issue and consumers who currently own these models should cease riding their bike and contact their shop about getting their fork replaced. Although current forks do meet CPSC standards and while not a single fork has failed to this point, Felt’s independent U.S testing laboratory along with Felt’s own random testing protocol has detected a sampling that has not met Felt’s expected standard.

“We have not experienced a single real-world failure to this point and we have had zero complaints,” said Felt company President, Bill Duehring. “However, while we know that the forks currently found on these models do meet CPSC requirements, unfortunately a sampling failed to meet ours. From years of work with elite teams and athletes we know that our carbon products must meet world-class standards. Our protocol is to test carbon frames and forks at random from our OEM carbon factory assembly lines. It is this kind of random testing that gives us even greater insight into the necessary quality and control we expect. We know there is a great amount of faith in us to deliver the very best and this is the standard to which we hold true. After testing a cross-section of early production forks we are simply not satisfied.”

Felt is currently in the process of procuring suitable after-market replacements and will be working with Felt’s dealer network to get this issue remedied as quickly and seamlessly as possible. Initial replacement forks will come from several manufacturers including Enve (formerly Edge), Easton and/or 3T. Any immediate questions on this can be directed to Felt’s Dealer Support at (866) 433-5887 or dealersupport@feltbicycles.com

I would have no problem buying this bike and if the fork issue was not taken care of I have no doubt Felt would step up and make it right.

Really don't see OP's point. Your iPhone and all your "high quality" Apple products are made it? Guess what, China.

If you like something, then buy it; if you don't then get something else. This is not 1980 anymore and you can't just automatically tag something this is good or bad based on where it was made.

If you don't like Chinese made Frames? fork over 4k and buy a US made Trek.
