Lizard Skin Bar Tape. Any Good?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Lizard Skin Bar Tape. Any Good?

Just ordered some of the black Lizard Skin Tape and was wondering what people thought of the brand as far as comfort, look, and durability? Is it worth the extra money? Also there is a race tape and then a thicker tape. Was wondering if it makes that much difference. Any thought are greatly appreciated.
Thanks Guys

Do a search on Lizard Skin. I've seen about 50 threads on it over the past year or so....

Shouldn't you have been asking this before you bought the tape? Either way, I've only had experience with very basic tape and just switched to the 2.5mm two-tone DSP tape, loving it so far. It has a different rubbery feel to it, but I like it.

Yeah I prob. Should have but the LBS gave me a almost 50% discount to try it out and so I pulled the trigger on it. Just wondering what to expect now.

I've only used it for about 600 miles or so but the stuff is solid. Comfortable and great grip.

lol Yeah its gonna cost me about twenty bucks instead of forty so I was pretty happy. Especially since I still have the ugly white bar tape that came with my Onyx that is pretty much black and brown now from my hands rubbing sweat into it.

Do you know the difference between the race type and the other thicker type? If it is only a few grams then I am glad I got the thicker stuff but was just wondering if it had a better grip or something.

the surface of the tape is the same. the thicker tape feels poofy because it's thicker inside, nothing at all to do with the surface you grab onto.

this tape is really grippy. it's especially awesome for bare sweaty hands, although I typically wear gloves.

It's very good I hear from colleagues, though I haven't made the switch yet myself.

It's da bomb... At 50% off, it's quite possibly the best value bartape you can buy.

I love it. The tape does not stretch such as cork or synthetic cork, which can be a good or bad thing depending on your abilities to wrap handlebars. I like the fact that it does not stretch because it makes warpping the bars a much more "mechanical" procedure.

This past 3 months I experimented alot with handlebar shapes. I used the same tape throughout (Lizard Skin DSP 2.5).

Sweet, sounds like a good deal. I'm not even gonna have to worry about wrapping them because the shop is gonna do it for me.

I thought it was quite slippery when wet. I wasn't wearing gloves though.

I thought I'd be the first one to chime in about it being a little slick some times, looks like there's others too. I also didn't have good luck with it's durability.

It's majorly squishy and comfortable, but in the end (for me) it just added to much girth and the slickness wasn't making me happy on the occasional hot summer gloveless rides.

weird. my white tape physically lasted all last year although lizardskins text became grey print from the filth. I didn't stretch it when installing and I used rubbing alcohol to clean it.

it was very tacky wet or dry, from when new till the day I unwrapped. I expect the black lizardskins tape I have now will last even better because it won't require much if any cleaning.

I have black lizard skin, that the LBS talked me into. It's grippy, and comfortable, but I don't care for the look.

In a 2 months it started to separate the layers. I'd never buy it again.

I had the thin race tape. White got dirty pretty easily. Also, the tape shifted and slipped in the drops. I had to rewrap it a few times. It does have a good feel. I did just switch to Arundel Gecko and so far prefer it over the Lizard Skins.

Interesting... Getting a lot of mixed feelings on it. As long as it lasts and it isn't so slippery that I can't hold on it should be fine for me. Hope I have good luck with it since it's the first nice tape I have gotten.

Just don't stretch it while installing, and don't clean it with anything besides water or rubbing alcohol.

Oddly enough, these instructions are on the product. But they would be the first thing I'd wonder about for the folks whose tape lost grip or ripped open.

I've got it on my FG bike, it being my first set of bartape as well (wrapped myself because bullhorns are easy to wrap).

Assembled October 2011, no problems so far. Provides superb grip to the barehand.
