Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

This is why I hate living in Ballard.

Almost all of the roads that have had more than one or two accidents lately give off a feeling that cyclists shouldn't be here. A friend of mine emailed this to me, with a note about being surprised by the distribution; I saw it and thought "Yep, riding on Eastlake kind of sucks, and so does Roosevelt leading up to it. Westlake, Broad, and Mercer always feel like the gauntlet. Stone Way kind of sucks, too, but it's not as bad as some of the others. And ..."

Is this kind of data available where you live?

Where I live, a map like that would more accurately represent how many bikes have been there in a week.

My wife's July 2011 incident isn't on there. She was on the BGT detour and we don't actually know what happened because she was unconscious 2 blocks from home when the neighbors heard her and found her bleeding. CTs, xrays, and $28,000 in medical bills. Could have been a hit and run, could have been fredly handling. We'll never know.
