Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Rollers - Reducing Noise

Hey guys,

I'm a recent roller convert. Bought myself a set of the Elite Arion Mag Rollers last week, and they are awesome. I'm gradually getting used to them...

The main issue I'm having is that they are noisy... the drums themselves don't make any noise when spun, and the rollers are on a tiled concrete floor (so I don't think there is much vibrational noise), so I assume that all the noise is coming from the tyres themselves. It's so noisy that my neighbour (apartment through the wall), can hear the noise, and has already complained about it.... arghh.

I'm using Continental Four Seasons at the moment. Is this kind of noise common on rollers? Is there anything I can do to reduce it? I'd even be tempted to buy a cheap ass set of wheels with quieter tyres, that I can swap out when I want to use the rollers.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated!

Do you have some foam padding or old carpet you can put down? My rollers resonated quite a bit while on my tiled floor, but a foam workout mat solved the problem.

I bought some interlocking foam mats off Amazon for like $25. I think they are 3/4" and seem to do a good job of eliminating excess noise (both for the neighbor next to me and the one below).
