Help me value my bike

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Help me value my bike

I've come to a point in my life where between work and my kids schedule (coaching a few sports) that I just plain don't have enough time for cycling these days. It's a shame, because I used to really enjoy it, but I no longer have as much fun as I used to. So I have decided I want to sell my road bike and I wondered if you all could give me some ideas what I could possibly get for it.

I have a 2009 Specialized Tarmac Expert (Carbon Fiber, Shimano Ultegra, weighs in around 17lbs, stock bicycle). Brand new I paid around $3200 and it has probably around 700-800 miles on it. It looks like the photo below.

Do you all have an idea what I could get selling it outright, or possibly just selling it at a bike shop? The shop is the preferable route, but i'm sure I'll get less there.

Thanks in advance. Hopefully several years down the road I might get back into the sport. But right now it's too tough.

Why don't you just put it in storage?

^^^Yeah, have it there waiting on your return. It's not like you'll grow up anymore so it will still fit. Now, without the bike you'll probably grow out...

Maybe so, but I just don't enjoy it like I used to. I could see myself much later in life getting back into it, but not in the foreseable future, so I've decided I'm ready to sell it.

Sell it and have some one else enjoy it. You've already rationalized why you shouldn't ride and it is no less valid than anyone else's reasoning. 2K would be a good starting point.

Depends on location, timing, luck.

Go on ebay and check completed auctions, and that's likely your best data. You can also check Craig's list listing, but remember those are listings not completed sales.

My swag would be around $1400 plus minus.

a 2009 Tarmac Pro Sl with Dura Ace with new cassette, chain, tires, and pedals, sold recently on ebay for $1750.

So unless you're fortunate, you're likely going to come in a fair amount under that.

Also what size is the bike?

buying a used carbon bike is risky business. That doesn't help its resale value. I'd guess $1600, but you might get lucky.
