Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

US Pro Cycling Challenge Race Experience

Just signed up for this.

https://trainright.com/coaching/bucket-list/upcc-2012/

Anyone else doing it?

The Application deadline is today, however, I think they may extend that if its not full.

Looks great, but $10,500 is steeper than the mountain passes you'll be riding. The info the requested on the application is a bit weird too...like highest level of college completed, current profession, marital status, family income, etc.. WTF?

$10k for a week of riding and acting "pro". I've ridden with pro riders for free. $10k is ridiculous.

How about you just get the stage routes and plan it yourself and save $9000?

But hey, its your money.

I think the steep price is for the CTS cycling kit included with registration.

Looks like a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I'm going to choose to send my kids to college instead, but I'll look for your write-up after it's done.

$10k is a lot of racing for me. a TON of real racing. I'll just buy one of his books and ride the courses on my own.

Can you imagine your dinner with the pros being like this?

"You paid $10k to do this?"

Obviously it's not cheap. However, you're getting a high level of support. Being able to ride the entire stage just before the actual stage, with full support is worth something.

And having sogniers, mechanics and massage every day will be nice.

Also VIP suites to watch the race finish will be cool.

I don't particularly care about being able to rub elbows with the Pro's that much. I've done that before at the Tour de France, and have raced with Pro's, so not a big deal.

But full logistical support for a week of riding the entire race is worth it to me.

I would do it but I'm not sure I can get in shape in time from a nagging running injury. If the deadline gets extended, I will consider. It does sound good.

I'd rather take that $10K, get a nice new bike, and spend a month riding around Europe. $10,000 for one week. Do those massages come with happy endings?

I'm not getting that vibe at all. While I'm sure there are some folks buying $8,000 road bikes on credit cards, most people here with bikes >$3,000 have a little disposable income. Some more than a little.

Looks like Boulder got Stage 6. That route is gonna hurt.

https://www.dailycamera.com/boulder-c...ws/ci_20065459

We spent an hour this morning discussing where we're going to watch the stage. We decided if it rolls through downtown, we'll have a party at the office. Given what's being discussed, it should come right down this street.

People telling other people how to spend their money is dumb.

Have a blast, merlin.

it's an art form.

Obviously I'm not going to intentionally post things that reflect negatively, and just flat out bragging without some covering pretext, invites flaming.

Bragging without appearing to do so is much more of a challenge. Having been detected, I've apparently failed in this thread.

ha ha, the camp costs more than almost all domestic pro riders make in a year. You should do the real "live like a pro" camp and sleep 8 guys to a motel 6 bedroom, eat Ramen noodles, and sit at Starbucks all day for the free wifi.

The post of the year. I could be a pro but I overdosed on Ramen noodles in college.

He's watching the finish in a private box...wow....let's wave at the little people.

I'll save my $10k and do 2x20s. That training is more useful to me.

No. This would be completely inconsistent with the BF credo.

Yeah, it's his money. Not yours or mine.

He can spend it any way he wants.

Enjoy the experience Merlin. I look forward to your post-experience write-up.

No, its a tad out of my price range these days. I am planning on sectioning up the route and riding it for a little incentive this spring and summer. However I'll be doing it on cheap without all that lovely support and shoulder rubbing, er... socializing... I'd frankly rather buy a new pimped out ride to use on it self supported. Sounds like a blast though.

What might be fun is to org a BF group ride on the stages for those who are disincline to shell out $10K.

Speaking of shelling out $10k; would that be enough to never have that blasted O Depot ad take over the screen and cover the OP again? Had to close the bugger 3 times before I could read and reply to your OP. Grrrrr....

Super stoked about this! I have not even thought about where to post up for the race though. Boulder will be a ZOOOOOOOO!!

I'm in for the boulder stage, except maybe we can do an alternate to boulder canyon. Sugarloaf? Magnolia?

Probably. Me? You'd have to pay me at least half the $10k to wear a CTS jersey.

No way. That would mean the deadline is just some marketing ploy.

BTW drop the capitalization on "Application". It's just an application. Not THE APPLICATION.

For $300 worth of Southwest coupons and, let's say $750* you could come out for the Tour Of California, stay at my place, walk a block to watch the peleton cruise by, hang out with a real Cat 1, eat top notch food, ride the routes, and for another $100 I'll let you drop me on Baldy.

I'll even throw in a can of spray paint for the road (no huffing). And let you use my pressure washer.

So do they drug test you?

*I pulled that out of my ass. I'd probably let you stay gratis.
