Who's up for a challenge?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I like to see challenges like this, but I don't have the hills or the ability.

I'll try, but I don't think I have the time to do it. I have no excuse of not having any hills nearby....

I'm not scared of the climbing, but being employed and having a family pretty much make this one impossible for me. I can get 10k feet in 6 hours, so it'd be 65 hours, or about 10 hours a week, plus about 1.5 hours of driving a week to get to the most optimal climbing spots.

I wonder how many people will hit the goal? Couple hundred?

Oh wait! Day light savings time is going to be in effect! If I ride 1.5 hours every weekday(which I am not able to do right now due to the time) I might be able to complete the challenge.

My Saturday rides are usually around 5000ft of climbing and sunday rides are usually 2000 but up to 4000 depending on whether I ride alone or with the local club.

This contest favors those that live near hills. I would have to take time off from work and drive places to do this, so I don't think I'll be participating. Riding back and forth over the same freeway overpass doesn't sound like fun. Firing up the Strava app on my smartphone and launching it into orbit to achieve the required altitude might be.

I will however actually ride the full courses during the tour versions of Flanders, Liege-Bastogne-Liege, and Milano-San Remo this year. I would have done the others also but some idiot decided to put the Roubaix cyclo on the same weekend as Flanders, and Amstel Gold was fully booked. I don't see myself doing any of them 3 times though. That would be insane and really expensive.

I'm really curious what the "surprise finisher gift" is. I can't wait to hear from the finishers what they actually receive. Hopefully it's not totally lame.

I'm tempted on going for it but looking back at my Garmin data from last year, I don't think its hilly enough around here. Most elevation on a single ride was 4900FT and that was a century.

To get that much elevation around where I live I would need a helicopter.

I'm currently averaging 2000ft ascent per (serious) ride for 3-4 rides a week, should be no problem. Joined.

I would only need to ride up the local hill about 1600 times!
