Traveling solution?

When you go out of town for 3-7 days, what do you do? Do you ship your bike, rent a bike, or skip riding? Or have you bought a folding bike (Bike Friday Pocket Rocket anyone)? I'd like to hear from people who've brooded about this a lot. Oh, I'm talking about places that require air travel.

Depends. Is it a cycling trip, or a destination that has good cycling? If the answer is no, then I leave it at home.

If it's a business trip, normally I just book a hotel with a fitness center and I use their stationary or elliptical machine instead. I can handle it for a week.

I bought a Bike Friday PR when I was going on a lot of short business trips. Having the bike along was a great way to explore new cities and surroundings.

I fly on Southwest almost exclusively and can check two pieces of luggage without charge. My Brompton M6L folder fits in a suitcase which is under the maximum dimensions and weight limits for checked baggage without an oversize surcharge.

On rare occasions I take my road bike in a Thule hard case and pay an extra $50 each way to check it.
