Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

2012 North American Handmade Bicycle Show Pictures

I was there yesterday and took a bunch of pictures. I have been uploading them to my blog starting with my favorites, so I figured I would share:

https://ft-atalay.blogspot.com/?m=1

I will be putting more pictures up soon.

No problem. As for the Crumpton, looks like Bike Rumor weighed it at 9 lbs 12 oz, which is still amazing but sounds like all the light parts didn't make it onto the show bike. I need to fix that in my blog when I get a chance.

Uhh, then you are posting in the wrong thread.

I went to NAHBS last year in Austin... amazing! The people there had such great ideas. I had interesting and illuminating conversations with the Mavic guys and with Ben Ser-ah-tta.

Thanks for the pictures, fa63!!

I disagree. IMO, there nothing more lame in cycling than over-the-top weight weenie-ism. I see it as an absurd hobby/obsession, sort of like those guys who compete to see who has the loudest car stereo. Of course, YMMV.

On the other hand for some reason I love handmade stainless that costs thousands, which is probably equally silly. Also, I love the Cherubim stuff, which is basically useless from a practical perspective. In particular, I think this may be the best looking frame I've ever seen.

Maybe I need to have my head examined.

I had a really nice chat with the Gaulzetti folks. Were they the only aluminum builders? There must have been half a dozen builders using wood and bamboo, though.

there were a more alu builders, but steel seemed to be dominant.

Since NAHBS was held in my normally boring hometown, I made the most of it. I volunteered for SABA doing bike parking, so I got in for free both days that I went (Friday and Saturday). Bike parking is fun because you get to see some rather interesting bikes and lift those sub-14 pound road bikes.

Friday was the day I volunteered. From 9 AM to 11 AM was industry-only. The show didn't open to the public until 11.

Here's some pics from the show. Many more are here.

There is nothing sexier than thin tubed steel with Campy in my opinion. Thank God I weigh next to nothing, so I can ride it without twisting the poor thing to death! Ti with Campy is next.
