Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

How was your February?

How was your February? Did you get out cycling now and then? Did you participate in other sports? Got any good photos of cycling in February?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rowan and I cycled 651.85 km, which is the most I've cycled in any February ... including a century, a 120 km ride, and a whole bunch of shorter rides mostly around our local area. Our century was in the Phillip Island area (south-east of Melbourne) ... we spent a long weekend there.
Included in the shorter rides, I did 3 rides that were intervals. That's the first time I've done intervals in a very, very long time!!
We also did a 15 km cruise down the local river in our canoe.
And, since it was a reasonably warm summer, we got in quite a bit of swimming.
Only 211 miles for Feb. Sickness, work sched, and prograstination did not allow me to do my usual 300+.
Bummer indeed.
Mileage and training wise, it was good. 97 "miles" on the trainer, and 485 miles outside.
Then, last Saturday I had a crash that separated my right shoulder and (I think) tore one of the bicep tendons. So, recovering from that, riding the trainer. Will find out if the bicep tendon is separated and what can be done about that. Riding the trainer since then. Shoulder healing, but still sore and weak. Still hoping to be able to race some this year, but will have to wait on the shoulder.
I crashed and separated my left shoulder back in 2007 ... so I feel your pain!
I didn't fully realise what I'd done until a week or two later ... the main thing I noticed with mine was that the whole left arm felt loose. Like it wasn't attached properly. And I started sleeping with my arm over my head. I was told by both a Dr and a Physio that people with bad shoulder injuries do that because it is a naturally comfortable recovery type of position.
After you've spoken with your Dr (and quite possibly gone for that MRI where they inject dye into your shoulder (or something like that) to see what's wrong), get in to see a physiotherapist. I did at first which was a good move, but should have continued. I think it would have reduced the problems I've had since then.
Weather was pretty good, at least for February. I had a nasty sinus infection and then came down with shingles. It was a rough month and it has rolled over into March.
February had its ups and downs.
I've been trying to hit a 1,000 miles per month, and had done so every month since last March, I think. But in February, I didn't, blew my streak, got in a little over 800 miles. But I don't feel bad about that. I pretty much ride every Saturday, and I took off one Saturday on my 26th anniversary. Then with 4 days left in the month, I thought, "Do I want to go ride 50 miles a day just because, or do I want to have fun?" and I voted for the having fun.
But on the plus side, I got the new tandem in in February, and 325 of those 800 miles were on it. And chasing around trying to get it set up and equipped also occupied some time that would have been spent riding otherwise.
So all in all, February was a really good month, just not the most productive in the riding department.
I spent February recovering from a TURP procedure. Couldn't ride for two weeks while the temps here reached in the 60s. It still hurts when I pee. Hows that for a lousy month.
We really needed more rain in February. One more winter like this in California and the water situation will become a bit bleak. A couple of recent cold storms may have given us some snowpack in the Sierras
Riding wise no problems. I record all my rides, but don't pay much attention to mileage. We try to ride 60 or so a week on the tandem and I ride an additional 20-40 on my single. Rode 100K at Palm Springs in a gale - character building, and Solvang is upon us. As you get older you just gotta keep moving.
nearly zero miles the first half of the month, not much better the second half. Too much long-put-off house projects that really had to be done paired with fantastic weather during the week and crap during the weekends. March is looking up though.
We haven't had a real winter here this year. We had a couple of times where the temps would go down into the 40's for a day or two and then go back up to the 70's and 80's. I don't think I wore anything heavier than a sweatshirt. A little over half the miles shown below were done in February.
With 50km on that 29th day in Feb this year I managed to break my monthly distance record - was pretty happy with that one.
Yep, definitely gonna try to make it as good as possible. Being a piano tuner, I'd kinda like to keep my working arm , although it's possible to learn to do it left-handed.
The biceps tendon is definitely torn. So I'll be making calls this week to set up more appointments to see what can be done about it. Glad for good docs!
If was a great cycling month for me. I have been off the bike sine July for medical reasons and my doc gave me the green light and said I start riding again. It is great to be back in the saddle again.
Not a good start only 425 miles for February with 40,000ft of climbing. I'm concentrating on school more so I don't get as much riding as I would like in. Thankfully daylights saving starts in a week!
My average per week right now is 113 miles, want to kick that up to near 200. I kinda want to at least start racing this season.
