Flat tire..

I got my first flat tire since I started riding again while pedaling up the coast today. It was everything I thought it would be :D

Carloswithac 03-09-12 01:25 PM

Cool story bro. What part of the coast?

Erzulis Boat 03-09-12 01:49 PM

I am just about to roll out on a 50 mile up the coast jaunt myself without a spare tubular.

I do have my cell, and I think I can recall who I drunk dialed on my last bender and make sure not to ask them for any favors for at least the customary 2 weeks.................

At least you ride slowly on a flat tubular ..... clunk clunk goes the valve stem.

It happened in Luecadia. From the slash in the tire it looks like glass was the culprit. Nothing like changing a flat in 80 weather the first week of March, I may have got sunburned :) Too make matters "worse" a female bike club rode by and offered to help. The humanity!

I'd have taken that club up on any help at all they wanted to offer. I have no shame.

Are you gonna tell us the whole story or not?

It was 20 F this morning on the way to work. Remember that next time you have to go through the trauma of fixing a flat in March :-P

Part II...

Broke a spoke on the same wheel today. Coincidence? Doubt it...

The rim could be bent. The wheel needs to be trued ASAP.

Thanks! The rim was bent and I just got back from LBS new spoke and true.

ColinL 03-11-12 02:43 PM

Nice! Good thing you mentioned it... some folks wait until they break another spoke, and by then the wheel is often in trouble.

Mike F 03-11-12 02:51 PM

:) One thing the guy mentioned while fixing it was possible causes of broken spokes.. Impact, over tightening and to my surprise, cross-chaining. He said that when you cross chain it puts stress on the wheel because the chain isnt straight creating tension- I did not know that. I think in my case it was one of San Diego's notorious potholes.

Shoulda ask them: there's something inside my chamois that's causing a problem at the moment. I need a hand.

:) The one liners were racing through my mind... help pumping... Its not the size of the stem... Probably best I waved them of with a "no thanks, thats mighty kind of you to offer"
