How much do you have in your ride?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

How much do you have in your ride?

I was curious as to how much you have spent on your bike initially, and how much you have put into it after the initial purchase?

I bought my bike off demo for $1400, reg. priced at 22. Since then, I have purchased a new seat, the stock Felt seat is a torture device, another set of wheels, and latest, some cranks. Those parts have cost me roughly $500 more on top of the purchase price.
I am not including lights, bags, etc. as I don't really count them as required parts of the bike, more comforts or amenities.

How about y'all?

Everytime I bring up how much I've spent on the bike, my wallet just glares at me.

I would too if I was always stuffed in someone's tight pocket for hours on end, I guess.

$550 for the bike from Craigslist - $200 in tune ups and chain/brake pads, etc... - $375 I think for the Edge 800 - $100 Toupe saddle - $170 Ritchey WCS stem & bars & new tape - $520 November FSW23 wheels - $80 GP4000s tires

So $1915 total. Kinda makes me sad, almost $1400 into a $550 bike

But she's purty and runs great, so that's all I can ask for.

My wife is under the impression that my main bike (S-Works Roubaix SL2, Zipp 404's, PowerTap SL+) cost in the $2000-$3000 range. I neither confirm nor deny when she refers to it.

My road bike was around $1300 new and I still have everything stock (Mavic Aksiums, Ultegra except for brakes) other than the saddle which came off my hybrid (came with San Marco Ponza which was too tough for me), and of course pedals which were maybe $50. And two new tubes, $10 due to punctures. For the level of cycling I'm doing I can't justify anything more anyway.

It's only if you start adding clothes, Garmin 500, accessories, etc. does it really add up.

I have also added a disc brake, new saddles, new wheels, lock-on grips, new tires, rear rack, etc to my other bikes (hybrid + MTB) but this is the 41.

I have no idea what any of my bikes cost. I really don't have bikes...I just have a bunch of parts that currently are being used to make a bunch of different bikes. I know how much some of the parts cost. The parts get replaced when needed or desired.
I rarely buy complete bikes, and when I do its because it is already set up the way I want, or at least close enough that I don't need to upgrade stuff.

$550 for my first bike, with $600 or so in upgrades.
$1159 for my next bike with about $400 in extras so far.

Ha, my wife's bike is nicer than any of mine. And yes, I put an $1800 crankset on her bike.

I don't want to know. As I parked my car last year to save money, it has been a horrific failure. But I have nice shiny bikes!!

Me having and riding lots of bikes has kept us a one car family. I have probably spent more on bikes than I would a second car, but now commuting and hobby expenses are combined, which is no doubt saving me money in the long run. Not to mention the improved health.

Initial bike with helmet, shoes, pedals, computer and cages = $3100

I then replaced the stock Mavic Aksiums with Ksyrium SLs for $700. Have also added a Cateye V3 computer $149. Took my other computer for my wife's new (to her) bike.

Oh... Also considering a different saddle. Probably looking at another $100 if I can find a good deal on Craigslist.

This about sums up my dynamic. Eventually she'll start questioning the consistent arrival of packages in the mail. A PO Box has been on the radar, but not sure if I really want to stoop to that level of sneakiness. That one could really blow up on me.

Which bike?

I have 1000.00 in the frame and fork, 600.00 in the wheels, probably 500.00 in other parts on my Riv.

All this was shipped to the office so "the boss" wouldn't know.
