Any Quality Frameset for $500?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Any Quality Frameset for $500?

The Cannondale CAAD 4 needs to be put away. I'm sick of it, it's scratched up, and it's always been a little big. I've upgraded parts over the years, so I just need a frameset, but I can't go wild on the budget. There have been some threads on this, but nothing recently, so the info is kind of outdated. Any suggestions? I don't care about the material, but I'm guessing I'm looking at aluminum, and I'm cool with that. Thanks.

CAAD9 or CAAD10 framesets on ebay always go for around $500 it seems. You might have to get an adapter for your crankset if the frame is BB30.

I am addicted to trolling eBay for bike stuff, and if you are willing to take the chance, there are also a lot of cool carbon frames that go for around $500. I was sorely tempted to bid more on a Van Dessel Rivet which ended up around $600 or so, but I couldn't justify it to myself as I don't have an extra groupset sitting around to build it up with.

Surly Pacer ~ $450 I think. Not the lightest for sure, but its a good riding steel frame.

Soul Faith is $600. Comes with frame, fork, headset and BB30 adapter.

I like mine.

Contact Tom @GVHbikes.com. If you are just looking for a frameset, they have a great inventory and the prices are really good.

Thanks for the ideas so far. I checked with my LBS, and the Allez frame is sold out from Specialized in my size (54), so that's out. Anything else you can think of? The Pacer seems on, but it's just not calling my name.

If you were going 54 in an Allez, take a serious look at Grasschopper's offering. I can't believe it hasn't sold by now.

I have never seen a CAAD frameset for $500 on ebay.

All the ones I see are upwards of $1000. e.g. https://www.ebay.ca/itm/New-CAAD-10-C...item415e454ef1

Grasschopper, I can't PM because of low post count (even though I've been a registered lurker for 5 years). I'm interested in the bike. I may have emailed you, or at least I tried. If you can give me any more info on the frame I'd appreciate it. I've never heard of it before, but it seems like an extraordinary deal. Thanks.

Feel bad for whatever misinformed person bought that. $1000 here gets you a caad 10 rival with rival crank and other extra goodies.

I replied...I would say it's a good deal and like I said in the other post I can't believe I haven't sold it yet.

And my email bounced. Do you have another email address? It was trying to reply to a siu.edu email address and said the email address doesn't exist.

Small in the above ridley is pretty equivalent to a 54cm Caad. Feeling aero?

Retail, the last I heard, on a Caad 10 is $900ish for a frameset.

Thanks for not bidding more! I bought that Van Dessel Rivet off eBay for $599 plus shipping. Looks great! Of course, got sick as soon as it was built and haven't ridden it yet.

Maybe only Canadians are willing to overpay? I just did a search for completed listings of CAAD9 frames and not one completed sale was over $350! (not sure of the search timeframe as I did it on ebay mobile)

Get well soon! Man, I was VERY tempted to bid up that Rivet as I love the look of that frame, but I woulda had to transfer over the parts from another bike and sell the frame to really justify it... Looking forward to your ride review and pics when you feel better!
