Why don't I see many Fuji bikes around (in bike forum and on road)?
I for one love my Fuji Roubaix ACR 3.0 with aluminum frame and Tiagra/105 f/r derailers, and carbon fork AND seat stays.
It's my first "close-to-high-end" road bike, and I love how super fast and smooth it is. I thought Fuji still carried its Japanese quality image.
How does Fuji compare with other brands in popularity and perception of quality? Or is it all just personal preference?

I see a ton of them. My Daughter has a Fuji Ace 24 and is more than happy to point them out when were driving.

I had a Fuji once...handled like a tank and I had nothing but issues with it...
I sold it quick-smart and I'll never go back.

do you mean it forged through many unrelenting conditions, was very well built for attacks, and an indelible ground weapon for countless victories?

Back in the day, Fuji was very highly respected for their racers. If you owned a Fuji, people new you had a very reliable bicycle. Fuji then, was somewhat parallel to what Trek is today!
If there was a neighborhood race between a Peugeot, a Schwinn, and a Fuji. Most of the crowd would be divided between the Peugeot and the Fuji. Many would be leaning towards the Fuji!
Today, when talking about bicycles and their relative performances, I often omit the name of Fuji. I should know better! I don't know why Fuji these days, seems so forgetable!

I see Fujis all over DC...probably because there are at least 5 Performance stores close by and several of the larger dealers in the area sell them. My fiancé has a Fuji hybrid and it's a pretty sweet bike. With Fuji, you seem to get one component level above the other mainstream brands at the same price point...not really sure what the catch is though.

Throw the stick!!!!
I have had many Fuji's and still ride one quite frequently. I personally like Fuji as well as any brand out there, including my Colnago.

I see quite a few steel Fuji's chained to all sorts of objects in NYC, slowly rusting. Williamsburg and Greenpoint Brooklyn being hot spots for finding bikes turning to rust. On the road - have seen only a few. Mostly Cannondale, Specialized, Cervelo, Trek and the odd Felt.

In my experience, the perception is that it's a second tier company. I just bought an Altamira, and enjoy it quite a lot. The ride is smooth, and it climbs like a mountain goat. When I told a buddy about it, he thought of the rusting hulks chained to various objects and thought I had bought steel. When he saw it, he was very surprised and impressed. It's a good looking bike and the graphics are done well. I received several positive comments on it on it's first group ride.
I'm not sure Fuji's model of steep discounts to get rid of last year's inventory is necessarily good for its reputation, but I'm not arguing. You can get a great bike for a great price by purchasing the previous year's model. (if they still have your size)

Same here. My friend and I ride Fuji but on the trail we see Specialized, Giant, Cannondale, and so many TREK's. I remember seeing two Fuji's in all.

Despite that, I just got a newer Fuji frame and like it quite a bit:

But it's my first venture into full carbon land...so I can't really compare the ride. Plus, I didn't pay anywhere near retail.

They're decent bikes. I believe you don't see more due to the dealer network. Now that Performance sells it, nobody else is likely to carry it (since Performance will have special models, special deals etc. so who really wants to compete with that). I think they'll gain more popularity if they drop Performance.

I just bought a 2011 Fuji Newest 3.0 and love it. I've been riding it everyday to work to try and lose some weight. The only problem I've seen noticeably are the shifters. Not as smooth as I think shifters should be.(I'm kind of a newb at Road bikes) This should be easily upgradeable though in the future.

I am quite pleased with a 2008 cross comp. It's held up well to both on/off road ventures. The overall construction is stout and well finished. And, as was mentioned in another post, some of the components are a level higher than those that were appearing on competing brands when I purchased the bike.
