If you wanna run cool, that is. :) |
I think that generally, the older you get, and more responsibilities you take on, the less you drink.
When I was younger, I wasn't ever an alcoholic, but I was definitely a binge drinker. Never drank at home alone, but when I went out, I would always pickle myself. These days, with a wife, work, a child and a tight schedule, I drink maybe once every couple of months. It's not that I dislike drinking, I just place a higher premium on my free time, and don't want to spend it inebriated. Then there's the hangover... I hate hate hate (3 times for emphasis) the feeling of being even slightly incapacitated. There's nothing worse than not being able to do something you want because you feel crappy, by your own fault. |
Next February, hopefully, will be 20 years without drinking but I eat about 1 cow a year. LOL.

I dont believe in quitting anything completely. I've certainly reduced the amount of drinking I do since my college days 7 years ago, but I still enjoy quality beer, wine, and liquor.

I'm slowly starting to relate...also the less I drink the less I care to drink. It becomes bothersome when it upsets your stomach or just makes you drowsy because you aren't pounding them to get wasted. I used to drink like 4-5 post ride with friends...now I might finish 1...might. I prefer lots of water and a beer just before sleep to help calm my nerves

In my mid 30's I am becoming less and less tolerant of hangovers. I think to myself, you get ONE day off (when we're busy at work anyway) and you're going to spend it on the couch with a headache!? What a waste. After you have two or three beers, if you're like me, you'll have this deep stirring in your loins. It's a primal urge to have another beer. I have learned to talk to this urge, bring him out in the light, learn his name and his nature, and say, "F you! I'm stopping. I want to get up and ride tomorrow." My brother quit binge drinking and only drinks on special occasions. Now he has a six pack. :notamused: (- jealousy) (Not sure if this post was on topic...) |
