Lightweight Hub recommendations?
 

Sadly, the rear hub on my Soul S2.0SL has been giving me a bunch of trouble. Sean @ BikeSoul offered to deal with it if i send the wheel back, but the time and expense of sending the wheel back to him I think doesn't make sense. He's been good about sending individual parts for it in the past, but to send the whole wheel to Singapore is just a bit too much.

So i'm looking to simply replace the hub with a new one. Looking for something that is as lightweight and fast as the Soul Prodigy hub, but i'm willing to take a slight weight penalty for reliability.


(Side note, i understand that Soul's newer Prodigy hubs have improved on the original design - mine is older.)

BikeHubStore SL211. Actually made by Bitex. Can't beat the quality for the price. Consider lacing 1x heads in on the drive side to increase bracing angle.

White Ind H3 would be a higher quality hub but it's also heavier and more expensive. But they're reliable. Also Shimano Dura-Ace, which is about the same weight (DA hubs are sold with their excellent QRs so quoted weights usually include the QR, making them sound heavier than they are). They are usually more expensive than the H3 but sometimes there's a deal.

Doesn't he have a dude there in the USA to service the parts for us North Americans? I think it's Mazdaspeed something is his SN.

So you are going to try to re-use your spokes and rim? Bad idea. Unless the hub is identical the spokes won't work. And if you are using a new hub, spokes and nipples you may as well get a new rim.

yeah, DA FH-7900 or WI H3. nearly identical in weight, quality and price ($240).

If you get lucky, you might be able to find a FH-7801 or FH-7850 for $120~180

They are Bitex hubs. Made by Bitex. Not Bikehubstore. Many of us in the industry use them as well. You are staying at the same level of hub though. It isn't until you start climbing the precision ladder that you start getting hubs that truly last and perform.
