Tires

Folks what's your experience with Conti 4000S tires?

bikebum202 04-18-12 02:44 PM

I realize they are pricey but bought a pair for $80.

Excellent.

Thanks for asking.

That's like going into the fat people forum and saying "hey ... does anybody like chocolate?"

Yum!.. but do those forums REALLY exist? (too lazy and scared to search for them)

OP: I like the GP4Ks too...

Funny you should ask. Yesterday afternoon, I pumped some air back into my front tire, with a 4000s on it, taking it up to 105 pounds. I rode about a quarter mile and the tube blew out, literally, after part of it squeezed through an opening where the tire bead had torn - about an inch long.

I'd only mounted it once, a few months ago, when I got it, and had only ridden it 200 miles since, with no problems until it tore.

I've never seen this before and I'm thinking the tire was defective.

I have them on both of my bikes and have been using them for about 4+ years. They are a great dependable tire :thumb:

Ahahaha so true. In fact, in this forum it's almost the same question as "are Cannondale bikes any good?" or "do you like your Mavic wheels?"

Carbon Unit 04-20-12 01:07 AM

Great tires! I won't use any others.

Mansram01 04-20-12 01:33 AM

Great tires. Not as light as some, they are very durable.

I love mine but paid 110.00 for a pair.

Right Said Fred 04-21-12 06:58 PM

Never heard of them.

StanSeven 04-21-12 07:12 PM

bikebum202,

You're new. They are the most popular tires here

waynesworld 04-21-12 07:15 PM

I was down to those or the Vittoria Rubino Pros, and got the Rubino Pros because of price. Your price seems pretty good to me.

SPlKE 04-21-12 07:19 PM

Conti GP 4000? Besides obscenely overpriced?

Flat magnets, harsh ride, balloony yet hard and slippy-slidy on corners.

icyclist 04-21-12 11:07 PM

I mentioned above that I had a defective Conti. It was replaced, no questions asked, by my LBS, which carries the brand.
