December 30, 2004 A.D.: 60 degrees and dry!

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Just finished a GREAT ride today. It is 60 degrees and mostly cloudy today here. There's even just a mild wind. Unbelievably beautiful riding weather (wuss Californians complaining about 60 degrees? ) Feel the endorphins coursing through my veins...mmmmmm.

It's freaking brilliant, huh? I'm down here in Atlanta and it's 64 degrees at 4:30p.m. with a very nice breeze.

It was even warm in NYC, at least warm enough to ride. And sunny too. Tomorrow is supposed to be even warmer, but maybe overcast. I have the week off, I didn't think I'd get to ride.

OK, I'm in. 70 and cloudy in Little Rock. Rode yesterday, which was 60 and mostly sunny. Very nice after 5 days of snow and ice. Homeboy Tomcat and I rode Monday, which was closer to 40 with some snow and ice still around, but he knocked off his 3000 mile goal for the year on the ride.A crash set him back a few months ago, so good on the 'Cat. The Sunday before I got in a couple of hours at 38 degress and 15-25 MPH wind. This is my first "off season" and I'm trying to ride through, hanging in there at 70-100 miles most weeks.

Here in Jerez, Zacatecas, Mexico all week in the mid 60's dry sunny all the time not a cloud in the sky. put in 40miles before lunch!! Tomorrow and Saturday more of the same for me. Probably stay that way until February 15th when spring starts to show its warmer temps... What a life!!!

Although it's raining and a little colder than that, this is way too true to be funny...and yet, out I go!

I hope you guys are wearing your cold weather gear! It was a little cool here today - reached only 75 degrees - I rode three times. 8 am, 1PM & 5PM! You gotta love it!

But that's not what's making me bitter.

What's making me bitter is the FedEx guy dropped off two packages of parts for my Orca yesterday, and instead of riding the final draft of the blingmobile the best I can muster is a quick dash on the mountain bike, and a couple of hours on the trainer chasing Damiano Cunego on the TV.

To quote Eric Cartman:

Now that is frustrating - not getting to play with new parts. That is why I rode three times today. I just got some new handlebars, and had my bike professionally fitted (not typical LBS BS), and I couldn't make myself stay in the house. I do empathize with you. I left the North in 1982 after I opened my garage door, and the snow was up to my chest. Did I mention that I had a very long driveway, and did I mention that although I promised myself every year, I still did not have a snow blower. I was gone my next winter!

Stop beating about the bush and tell us how you really feel!

It's been a bloody awful Xmas over here with temps in the low 20's (~70F). We've had to drag out the winter woolies its so cold. But the cool weather makes for a nicer time hillclimbing.

Thankfully we should be back to normal tomorrow with temperatures in the mid thirtees (90-95F).

I just got back from 60mi on rural roads. It was in the high 30's when I left and into low 40's when I got back. It's been raining here the last couple of days, and I was coated with mud. Had to stick the bike in the shower and spray off the 2+ pounds off road scum.......

I'm still hoping for a repeat of my birthday, 1/27, from a few years ago. 66 degrees at the end of January in NYC. And this year I'll have my new CF bike, whichever I choose, maybe.

Yes, 52F with a little rain and lots of wind. Actually pretty nice conditions for a recovery ride, but I could have planted some shrubbery on the bike's down tube when I got home. It's good to have a rain bike. And rain tights. And a fender or two.

Not one of my wussy California ride buddies could be convinced to go outdoors today. Oh well, they missed out on the patches of blue sky over Crystal Springs Reservoir. A clear sky always looks nicer when it's preceded by gray and gloomy.

My ride up through PA today had an average temp of 42 degrees. After 125 miles of that, I took a nice, hot shower. Sad thing is, that's pretty warm for this time of year.

78 in Houston.

10.9 miles @ an average of 12.8 mph moving average per my Garmin eTrex Vista (hey, this is like my 5th ride on a roadbike ever!)

Edit: I could have rode longer but my better half was on her way home ready for dinner.

Beautiful day here in the Lowcountry. After only 3 minutes of riding, I crashed. Then I spent the rest of the afternoon getting patched up at an urgent care center and fighting off shock.
