Ooh, so you might be able to use Di2 with a Campy crankset? Interesting. Though they'd probably make the spacing a few mm off just so you'd have to stay with the proprietary setup.

Awesome!
Now I can update to 7900 when you all dump your new DA to upgrade to 11 speed.

I don't know... I think the cranks are more attractive than 7900 cranks... very monolithic looking.
The BCD is a non issue for 90% of cyclists out there, 90% being the first number I pulled out of my ass. Myself and most of the folks I ride with replace our bikes every year, two at the most. I've never replaced a chainring and I don't personally know anyone who has. I just look at it as I do with any other luxury goods I may buy. Cost of ownership is usually higher, as is the perceived quality, precision, and prestige. SRAM is still cheap and not going anywhere anytime soon.
It's already cheap and foolproof. Wireless will probably never happen. You would require a battery on each brifter and derailleur.

That said, this crank is painfully ugly...and I happen to think most Shimano cranks are pretty decent looking. I'd like to think there's sound engineering behind the odd bolt pattern, but I just don't know.

I sorry but i think the 7900 and the new crank looks fine.
To me the weight is what counts and the 7900 crank is relatively light.

I've always thought the Dura-Ace cranks were overdone and drew attention to themselves. I like this new style.

BDop is this just a "Campy did this so we will too" thing? I wanted more research and improvement in the Di2 and Ui2 systems and possibly as so many here said, lower prices (dream on right.)

Aesthetically, the 7800 was (IMO) the best. Don't know, the new crank may grow on some. I remember many saying they hated the look of 7800 when it came out.

also, the 11 speed could give shimano a way to differentiate between da and ultegra di2. right now, the weight differences between dura ace and ultegra di2 upgrade kits is only around 100g. the 11 speed could be an incentive for some people to get the more expensive gear, although 11 speed will certainly trickle down to the other groups eventually.
