Leavenworth, WA, is a cheesy faux Bavarian town on the edge of the Cascades. It's on the eastern front, where the mountains meet the desert, so I did the ride in a tee shirt and got my first sunburn of the year.
I made a 45 mile loop: Leavenworth -> Cole's Corner -> Plain -> Leavenworth.

It was a very rare windless day on Lake Wenatchee.

Nice ride and what a beautiful one at that. One thing about Washington is it has some beautiful scenery. Lived all over Washington until I moved to Cali in 1988

I stopped at this diner in Cole's Corner for lunch, and ate outside in the shade. When I came in, somebody asked me if I was on a bike. Everyone who was working there was shocked when I said I'd come from Leavenworth (it's only 15 miles), and when I asked about the rest of the loop, one of the ladies said it was "Far. Really far..." which meant about 25 miles. When I said that sounded perfect, one of the ladies told me I'm a superman.
Talking to people who don't ride bikes is a good way to boost your ego. Especially when they fawn.

How could you ride in that weather. I mean, you can't even see the air you're breathing. The great thing about LA smog is at least you have visual confirmation that there is air.

And here is our river:

BEAUTIFUL pix, SF! Jealous for sure.

^ It's sad our rivers aren't wide enough to demand bridges like that to span them. And we'll never equal your sunsets with our smogless air. But, I'm making due with what I have available to me...

Man, people keep leaving Cervelos all over up there. Next time I need a new bike I'm going to Washington.

Great pics! On those days when you can actually see it, the scenery in Washington is is beautiful! As to the other 48 weeks of the year, no comment.
P.S. Lived in Kirkland, WA for 4 years until I moved to San Diego a couple of months ago; just couldn't take the gray anymore.

Damn! I would kill to ride in an area like that. My rides look like this...

and if I want to ride in the country it's pretty flat...
