Specialized Allez Elite 2009 vs Allez Sport 2012?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Specialized Allez Elite 2009 vs Allez Sport 2012?

Hey all,

Complete newbie to Road riding, currently own a Sirrus Sport, but regret getting that and want a roadie!

Anyway, I've been looking at 2 options... I can either get an Allez Sport Compact 2012 for around £6-700 (Allez Sport), or a 2009 Allez Elite, in very good condition, only 200 miles usage, for £500 (Allez Elite).

Now to me, the Elite seems a no-brainer, and way better than the other model which is more expensive. Have heard some things about a less aggressive riding style on the 2009 Elite, but I'm unsure. Am hoping to paricipate in road riding regularly, so want one that'll last and not hinder my performance (I know the engine is more important than the bike, but every little helps!) The only thing I could think as a downside is that the Elite is a 54cm frame. I'm 5'11, so would this be far too small? (My Sirrus is a 61 I think, which is WAY too big). So which one should I choose?

I'd be ever so grateful if anyone could help me choose, thanks so much in advance!

Shimano 105 over Sora anyday.

Anyday.

Also, I think the 54cm should fit you well. You'll have a lot of seatpost showing but you can adjust the fit accordingly with the lengths of your cranks and seatpost height. Reach can be adjusted by stem lengths. I'm the same height as you and I ride a 54cm frame (albeit Cannondale, but it felt more comfortable than a 56cm frame).

I used to have the 09 Allez Sport which is like the Elite except the frame is a bit different.

Get the 09 Elite. It's an amazing bike.

Just make sure you get what fits. Don't buy it just because it's available!
