When it rains
What do you do?
I was planning a big ride tomorrow. But it's been pissing down all day today yesterday and is forecasted to continue tomorrow. Now I've got all my pent up energy and nothing to use it on. What should I do? |
Depends. If "Aus" means Australia, I have no idea what the weather's like. If it means Austin, it's warm enough to ride in anything less than a big storm.
Unless it's uncomfortably cool/cold and windy in addition to the rain, I'd go ride anyway. It won't hurt the bike. Rule #9 definitely applies here. ;) |

Why not go for a ride?
Winter's coming on here in Australia, and we'll just have to start riding in the rain again. Get mudguards and some decent rain gear. I just don't like riding when it is pitch dark and raining ... and unfortunately that describes many evenings right after work now. I'm sort vaguely tempted to set up my trainer ... but I don't really have room for it this year. |
...if it isn't too cold, I always ride in the rain during rainy days...
|
is there wind and rain?
|
If it's light rain I ride. Just add in time to take care of the bike afterwards.
If it's hard rain, time for a run. A little cross training will make you stronger. |
Or bust out the mountain bike, if you have trails nearby. You won't have to go far afield, and the relatively low speed and the effort level should keep you warm.
|
I don't mind riding in the rain, I absolutely hate starting a ride in the rain. On a crappy day a lot of times I'll go out and do hill repeats close to the car, that way if it gets too bad I won't be to far away.

Uh, yeah, what's the BFD? I went for a 225k last Sunday with some friends. It was 7c all day and continuous rain. HTFU and get your Belgian Hardman card.
|
only 7c? wimp! :)
|
If it is misting or sprinking I ride. If it is monsooning, I go to the gym and do a spin class. Where I live riding in the rain isn't the problem I have it is a safety issue. People in So Cal can't seem to drive in the rain and I don't want to be road kill. I would rather live to ride another day.
|
Have a trainer or rollers?
|
I don't ride in the rain either. Pent up energy...well my wife is my backup ride.
|
LOL, or take that extra long shower...
