Don't like hockey - me neither
French - you can function perfectly well in English Canada without it
Winter-can't be that much different to New York State

Also we had the first Canadian in a Pink Jersey at the Giro d'Italia this week. But we also have a moron Mayor in Toronto who thinks roads are made for trucks and cars and that cyclists are just asking to get killed.

This would be my biggest obstacle. I don't think I'd have much difficult moving there (I'm Canadian), but I can barely make it through the winters here, so good luck with that.

Funny someone in NY complains about the cold, though.

Good point... but we are going that way regardless

New York varies greatly to the amount of snow received and how cold things are by location. In 2001, I moved from the southern border to the central portion. At mid-winter, Syracuse had had 100+ inches of snow, and Elmira had had 13 inches of precip, the bulk of which was rain.

And living on the northern border is a whole different degree of cold than even Syracuse. Less snow, lower temps, and lots of Scandinavian or Canadian accents. Oh golly.

If I am going to move somewhere, it's not going to be Canuckistan.

At least those of us on the 41 can find Intellectual Refuge here.

Soloist Assassin 05-16-12 01:46 PM

Poutine is actually quite tasty. I bet most of you have never tried it.

That's like saying Lebanon is a better destination than Kosovo.

Ice and Roller Hockey. Great place to work, just had to move on. I sometimes regret it.

We have buttloads of NGB's here. I pass USA Cycling , USA Basketball, and sometimes USA Volleyball on my commute. USOC is a weekend rec ride.

patentcad 05-16-12 02:53 PM

I'll tell you one thing, Canada's in MUCH better shape in a number of ways than the USA. No doubt about it. This country is a friggin meltdown at the moment. Let's hope cooler heads prevail.

What a wonderful legacy for Rush.

RT 05-16-12 03:01 PM

It really depends on your perspective.

Why is Rush even in the same sentence? He's not responsible for our mess.

I blame EPO.

dalava 05-16-12 03:08 PM

No, the real Rush.... now I can't get "Tom Sawyer" out of my head.

Great, now I can't get 'Fly By Night' out of my head.

Rush rocks.

See if this helps.

He's really not helping. Talk show demagoguery in this nation has really furthered the political polarization. That's what is turning us into Greece.

Things aren't necessarily as bad as your plunging AAPL stock.

Snowfall amounts may vary widely, but there's not much of a temperature difference between Syracuse and the north side of the lake. There's not a great distance between the two.

I'm not French.

Speaking of diet, what do you normally eat?

You mean the stock I paid $80-$250/share for? Oh no, what will I do?

Don't worry Gomer, the stock will be $800-$1000 per share by 2014.

I totally agree, except that New York extends twice as far as the north side of the lake. Toronto is similar to Syracuse in temps, but Montreal and the northern border of New York are at least anecdotally colder. My two years on the northern border were way harsher than Syracuse ever thought of being.

Not trying to be argumentative, and you may be statistically correct. But I could etch glass with my nipples up North.

Yeah, except for the 20 or so countries that rank ahead of us in health outcomes and cost efficiency. I'm confident that over time things healthcare coverage will get increasingly lame for increasing numbers of people and at that point a national healthcare system will start to look like a better plan instead of something people mistrust and fear.

When they say that they are talking about the quality of the doctors, facilities, tools/instruments. electronics, etc. not the costs.
