If you ride and race a lot, concussions go with the territory. Hopefully you'll have one every five years or less.

I'm a Coke man myself. WinCo, along with many other outlets near me, has Mexican Coke in glass bottles.

For some reason fountain Pepsi beats fountain Coke most of the time, according to my taste buds.

They got Pepsi in glass bottles at my local Walmart now!

Just what we need--more glass bottles for the yahoos to hurl along the side of the road.

There are few problems an eight ball of coke won't make temporarily disappear.

Glad I never became a big fan of that stuff! I can't believe I know people that still do it. C'mon people, once you hit forty it's time to mellow out a little!

In riding news...

I'm so glad I ride all year. A lot of folks are just dusting off their fancy bikes. Passed a lot of 'em today on my Mongoose. Not much load today, though. Just about 5-10 lbs in the backpack.

Even passed someone in aerobars. I hope they were just wrapping up a double century. I've only got about 50 miles so far. 10 more miles to get home. Might take the long way, go by the lake and make it 20.

I'm approaching 4000 miles for the year now and my bike stuff starts needing maintenance by May each year:

S2: new chain today.

R2: new chain and rear cassette earlier this week.

Powertap rear hub: bearings are shot, they are on order.

Just put new Conti Grand Prix rear tires on two bikes.

This is what happens when you actually ride the friggin bikes.

The P3 will need a chain shortly.

Good luck, feel better.

Be careful.

Glad the Pepsi works.
I don't know anything about your eating habits, but, Coffee might be a lot less calories.

Hope you're feeling better soon SA.

So I did my first tri today. It was a sprint, 500 yard lake swim, 16 mile bike with a couple decent hills, and a flat 5k run.

My goal was to finish in less than 1 hour 30 minutes and my final time was just under 1:27.

I ended up finishing in 97th out of 527 entrants which I suppose is ok for a total newbie.

I passed a TON of cyclists on the bike, especially on the hills. I didn't check but I think my bike time was in the top 20.

Is there something about a being a triathlete that makes you a lousy climber?

No need to covet any more.

As fate would have it, it had nothing to do with bike racing either. Even with someone dropping their chain right in front of me on Saturday's race nearly taking me out. As if that wasn't close enough, I got dropped avoiding that guy, and fighting my way back to the pack my Trek started creaking real bad. So next lap I pulled into the parking lot to get my S2 out, and re-enter the race. I figured if the bike was effed up might as well get the better lighter more aero bike to fight my way back into the race. It was a crit race, and I generally ride the Trek in those, but I bring a long backups of everything just in case. Well it ended up by the time I got the S2 out, I was already 1/2 lap down so I abandoned. Well the next day I checked out, and lubed the skewers thinking that may of been the source of the creak. I took them off, and applied some lube, and reinstalled them. When I tightened the front it snapped, and shot across my shop. I guess it was a good thing I stopped when I did.

So all those close calls, but none caused the concussion. How did I get it? I was working on my car grinding down some welding I did to the chassis, and I accidentally hit my knuckle on the 80 grit grinding disc at about 2000rpm, took a pretty sizable chunk out of my finger. So I stopped working, and began treating the wound. Apparently I hit a nerve or something, because it started to hurt really bad after about a minute. I remember trying to control the pain, and telling myself it wasn't that bad. Then it faded to black, and I woke up in the emergency room 3hrs later. Apparently I passed out from the pain, and hit my head on the way down. My other two concussions were from the collarbone crash last year, and a snowboard crash a few years ago. This one was far more severe. Who knew metal work was so dangerous? Pretty amazing a 25mph face plant that cracked my helmet in half, and broke my collarbone ended up doing less damage to my brain, than a simple fall to ground.

I started to feel a lot better today. Gonna mow the yard early tomorrow, and then I'm thinking of trying to ride again.

Always gasping for more air,11,685 failed attempts to suck ones own junk. Probably time to find a new hobby.

I just want to say these new pop up ads on this forum are annoying, and make me not want to use this board anymore. When I go to my subscription page I can't even click on the latest page thanks to these stupid ads. From what I can tell there is no way to close them either. I know that the ads pay the bills, but these type of ads disenfranchise users, and lead them elsewhere. I'm even a "Premium Member" so I shouldn't have to deal with ads anyway. Please LC, or Billy D or any other mods that frequent this thread please get rid of this crap. Here is a screen shot of the ads that I am talking about.

You guys are morons. A heavier bike is always going to result in more work period. Sure a better use of funds would be to buy epo, or hgh, but taking pictures of epo or hgh on a scale and posting it on bf could get me banned from racing. Racing a light bike in non uci events is pretty much okay. Besides that, I've always been addicted to modifying things so building a sub 13lbs aero road bike was a challenge right up my alley.

Did you really say "uci events"? LOL.

Nobody cares about local category riders. You are doing it for fun, at best. Enjoy it but good grief lighten up.

Haven't had a single pop-up on this site and my membership elapsed a few weeks ago so I would look elsewhere for a solution.

It only happens on BF, and it started in the last two or three days. It only seems to pop up on the subscription page.
