Replacing brake and shift cables
I am currently "down for repairs" waiting for a wound to heal after surgery, and thought I might get around to doing some maintenance on the bike. I haven't replaced either cable in years, and figure it might be a good time to do so while I am off the bike. I would like some suggestions on what sort of cables/housings to get and if there are any all in one kits (has housings and cables for both brakes and shifters) that are any good. I am on a 9sp shimano drive train.

I've heard good things about yokozuna cables and housing - no personal experience - but want to put them on my bike shortly.

Shimano cables are cheap and work great. You can buy individual pieces or convenient kits with all the important little pieces that are hard to find in small quantities.
Most other brands are much more expensive and may work a little better in some situations. |
Most large bike shops buy brake and shifter housing in bulk rolls. If you have a good set of cable cutters, you can cut pieces to fit so you could replace housings and cables with all the end caps for less than $20.
