Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Tires

I can't believe I'm posting in the Roadie forum! Me, Mr. MTB. First time for everything I guess! But with the trails being muddy so much I'm dying to get out and ride.
I've got a Schwinn Le Tour, (from the 80's), and believe it or not it still has the original tires on it. Never had a flat and they aren't brittle but I'm a little afraid to ride it. It's always been stored inside, no sunlight. Should I replace the tires? Also the last time I rode it, the ride seemed extremely harsh. Maybe because I'm used to my FS mountain bike. But I was wondering if there are any tires that would make the ride a little less rigid. Thanks
I feel like a rookie again...

What's to fear with old tires? Sure, you can use old skins. It is good for the environment too.

I rides old tires because I can't stand to see them filling the land-fill without squeezing all the mileage God had intended for them.

If you are looking for some good new 27" X 1.25", check out Nashbar.com and see what they have. They have some nice Vittoria 120 psi tires (under $10.00) that I got and am happy with. With the new harder tires, I can feel the leaves when I run over them.
