if i ride 20 miles at an average speed of 20mph, can i hang with the collegiate d racers?

Racing is not about averages. It's about being able to go 18 mph, then 30 mph, then 22 mph, then 28 mph .... whether you feel like it or not.

Who cares? If you race, you want to beat them, not "hang."

As long as you can spend half your time between 25-30MPH you should be good to go.
