How did you guys choose your jersey?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

How did you guys choose your jersey?

I have a new bike, different color scheme than my old bike, so i'm looking for a new jersey to match (two tone black & white)

Anyways, many of the jerseys I see cyclists wear have companies, brands, or products i've never even heard of. I know some of these people probably work for, or are associated with them, but the whole fashion aspect, and taste completely eludes me, as I am new to the hobby.

What made you choose the jersey you wear? I want one that will make me look more legit, and less of a casual weekend warrior.

I tend to choose based on what I think will have high visibility to drivers. Most of my jerseys are yellow, orange, and white in various combinations.

What you are seeing is most likely people wearing club kits, and club is "sponsored" by those companies, and by which I mean they get maybe 5% off.

5 of my jerseys were super cheap on sale ($15-$20 hincapie club fit jerseys from tour of california)
2 are from events I did that had great looking jerseys, and were 'race fit'. ($60'ish each - hincapie race fit)
1 was purchased purely because it is very tight, for days when I care about aerodynamics over anything else. ($120 castelli Aero Race).

On the cheapo jerseys, the logo is what it is. These are used during training rides and mountain biking. I still don't know what Herbalife is, and I've never seen a rabobank, but for $15 it's hard to complain.

Mine just happened to match the bike I bought, it was more luck than anything for me.
I also look for the best deals, I'm no pro so I don't care if I a pro kit or not.
I blow by guys in pro kits, & club kits all the time, even when I'm on my CX they never catch me.
They always do a double take they see drop bars approaching, then see my disc brakes, & figure out its a CX.
Jerseys don't make the rider, training does.

Can't wait for my bike to be built, it will be 6-7 lbs lighter, & is just going to make me faster( & happier).
1 more week...

I buy good stuff when it goes on sale. My criteria was it needed to fit and be cheap, color didn't matter.

"The" jersey??? That implies just one.

I'd have to go and count, but I've got 40 or more different jerseys. Sometimes I wear just one, sometimes I layer and wear 2 or 3 at a time.

If I see a jersey I like ... I buy it.

^^^ This.

I also like brighter colors, so I'm more visible to drivers.

I wear my team kit.

We get discounts from our sponsors. The discounts are substantially more than 5 percent off.

The only jersey for which I paid full price is my Zeppelin jersey.

I am afraid to wear it for fear of receiving citations for being too awesome on the road.

I have 4 or 5 jerseys. On any given day I'll pick the least stinky one to wear.

Please tell us you wash after each use? Not judging, but I know even when I get to work, I run my stuff through the birdbath to get the morning ride off of it.

Of course you are in Georgia, so the humidity may may make it difficult to air-dry.

The very few I've bought were on sale, but most have shown up as freebies for fund raising for some event (MS150).

cheap + pockets + good reviews on amazon + reputable brand (pearl izumi) = take my money

worked out well, I love my quest jerseys. they fit well, they're cheap and they're not plastered with logos
