Strange (for me) saddle issue
1 Attachment(s)
Hi, I'm on my first ever road bike. After almost 30 years of cycling (33 now). I've encountered a strange problem with the seat.
First: bike is good size for me (56 cm, I being 178). Seat height is also OK. However, when I ride the bike, I have a pressure in my groin when riding in the drops. While staying on tops, or on the hoods, it is OK. Comfy. But in the drops it hurts a bit. Tilted nose a bit downwards but didn't help much. Any easy solution to try, or just get another seat? Yes, the seat is Fizik Antares. One more thing: in the drops and tops my hand are fine, but when on the hoods, it feels as if they're too far away. Measured myself and the top tube - it is good for my size. Am I just not flexible enough yet? http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=252284 |
Have you tried moving your saddle in different position?
How long in the saddle before you start to feel this pain? I love the Fizik Arione TT2 it's longer, & lets me slide around when I need to, I happen to be quite flexible so this saddle works for me, & my sit bones. |
Do you feel that you have a good saddle height dialed in? If so, then maybe try testing out some saddles with a central cutout, channel, or one that is mostly unsupported material in the middle (like Brooks, Selle An-Atomica, or Fizik Kurve line)? That's what worked for me with the same problem...

Your seat is very far forward and you have a zero setback post, slide your seat back, should help both issues

Now I get where the pain is coming from.
-Invest in a nice bibshort(or 2) -slide the saddle back -I like mine level, no tilt or rise. I forgot to mention the Fizik Arione TT2 has extra padding on the nose of the saddle, it helps me when I'm In the drops for an extended amount of time. (& I prefer being in the drop postion most of my ride) |
It sounds like you are not rotating your pelvis enough. When you're riding, practice sticking your chest out as if you have a medal on it that you are showing off. You should feel your hips rotate forward and your back will flatten out. This should cause your weight to be moved onto your sit bones while lengthening your reach to the handlebar.

Yess!!!
Moving the seat a bit back, and getting bicycle shorts helped a lot. No problems whatsoever. Did first ever long roadbike ride with some club guys and it was great! :) I was second from the last on the last climb on the way home, but still felt great! :) Thanks for good tips. Cheers. |
Radically increasing saddle set-back and reach (maximum length stem) and lower bars cured this pressure on my groin issue. I was sitting far too upright. Check out this thread. Correct fit is very counter-intuitive. http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...tion-Discovery

It always takes a little tweaking to get things right. - Tilting seat absolutely flat. - Moving the seat from all the way back, to some 1.5 cm more forward (I measured knee cap - to pedal axle before, but obviously not accurately). - Told me that frame of my bike is a bit too long for me. Height is good, but frame is a custom made for a racer (I bought it 2nd hand) with my height and a bit longer torso. He said I should get a bit shorter stem. Stem is 9 cm at the moment, he said 6 cm will be perfect. I do feel bars are a bit too far forward, but thought I'm just not flexible and stretched enough. Stupid. :) http://surfcanyon.com/favicon.icohttp://www.google.com/favicon.icohttp://static.smarterfox.com/media/w...-sharpened.pnghttp://ff.duckduckgo.com/favicon.ico |
