Weekend Cycling/Sports Reports - May 26/27/28

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Decided to ramp up myself and do 40 miles instead of my usual 20. Started to feel the burn about 35 miles in, not too bad!

Got in another 20.5 miles today. Legs didn't feel too bad after Saturdays 55 miler. Air quality absolutely sucked today though. Guess there's something to those air alerts after all.

I'm traveling Sat/Sun to Houston, so I decided to do a morning ride, which I rarely do during the week. 23 miles, fast paced, lots of sweat, even at 8:30 in the morning. Commute traffic wasn't as bad as I thought it might be and I might need to do this again in the near future. I'm planning a longer ride on Monday after I put the flag out.
I made it out Monday morning after hanging the flag. A nice out-and-back ride to a small town south of me called Buda (Byoo-duh). Typical summer weather pattern with a strong north wind around 15 - 20 mph, hot and humid. I drank 4 24-oz bottles, two with Nuun and it still wasn't enough over this almost 3 hour ride. I got home okay but had to keep drinking water until I felt hydrated again.

41 on Friday
32 on Saturday
50 on Sunday
32 on Monday

It was a hot weekend - into the 90s every day and we broke a couple weather records for Chicagoland. I'm beat. Passed on the morning club ride today to try to recover a bit but am thinking of catching the evening 30. Weather tomorrow will only be mid 60s (yeah baby!) so would like to do something longer (50-60+?) tomorrow.
