What do you pack?

I'm looking for some ideas on what I should be bringing with my on rides. So what do you guys pack with you on rides? Tools/tubes/food?
Also what kind of bag/how big of a bag do you use?

vermilionx 05-27-12 08:44 PM

for my small saddle bag
- tube
- tire pressure gauge
- patch kit
- tire levers.

i have 2 water bottles for longer rides 30+ miles... i put water on 1 and gatorade on the other.

i also have a frame mounted air pump.

i don't wear lycra or jerseys but i wear MTB shorts and put my wallet and cell phone there.

LowCel 05-27-12 08:46 PM

I don't use a seatbag. I carry two tubes, patch kit, chain link, five bucks, multi-tool, two tire levers, two CO2's, inflator, mini-pump, key fob, glasses bag (cleaner), gel flask, cell phone. Think that's about it, all in my jersey pockets.

Two bottles on the bike and a road id on my wrist.

Ndw76 05-27-12 08:47 PM

I don't take any puncture repair stuff, but I do carry a mobile phone and money.
All I have with me is the bike, two water bottles, house keys, money, and a mobile phone.
If I get a puncture i will either call the wife or jump in a taxi with my bike in the boot/trunk.

Of course I am only riding around Bangkok and not out in the country side.

10 Wheels 05-27-12 08:47 PM

Bring more than I brought yesterday. I didn't bring a damn thing with me and had to change a flat in the lobby of a bike shop.

bobones 05-28-12 05:45 AM

In my jersey pocket I carry a Topeak Micro Rocket AL pump. (I used to carry a Topeak Race Rocket, but I sacked it after the valve nut got stuck in the hose connector, wrecking a tube and rendering the pump useless).

I also carry a mini multitool with pliers and knive blades which I have yet to use, kind of like these

http://www.easybizchina.com/picture/...c663c79055.jpg

I also stick a few cable ties inside my handlebars, but I haven't used them as yet. My chain snapped a couple of weeks ago so I now have had cause to use just about everything else.

Depending on the length of ride and weather outlook, I'll also stuff a couple of gels and a Endura race cape in my pockets alongside my phone, garage key and some cash. Two 750ml bottles on rides of that are going to exceed 30 miles or so, otherwise just one.

ThinLine 05-28-12 05:54 AM

I ride boring as hell 2.6 mile loops for 350 miles/month, I bring nothing but H2O, figure if I flat I have to walk no more than 1 mile.

Capecodder 05-28-12 06:14 AM

In a seat bag I carry:

2 tubes
tire levers
patch kit
2 co2 cartridges
tire boot
SRAM chain link
multi tool
cell, ID, and cash.......

On bike:

2 water bottles

Jersey pockets:

Snacks :)

andrewclaus 05-28-12 06:42 AM

My rides usually go out into the desert mountains for a full day, sometimes on well-graded gravel, so I often carry lunch and extra water along with the seat bag holding regular tools, spare, and puncture repair. Two water bottles and a pump are on the frame. In monsoon season I'll bring a rain jacket, rain goggles, and extra jersey. I have a rear rack and sometimes put a single rear pannier on it, if it's cumbersome to strap the load to the top. Sometimes I bring a book and take a long break under a big juniper or mesquite. Most rides I combine with a shopping trip and will stop for groceries or supplies on the way home, so a small cable lock comes with, too. I don't own a cell phone (no coverage many places, anyway) and try to be self-sufficient out there.

musicman1 05-28-12 07:46 AM

For my local daily ride of 12-17 miles just 2 bottles of water in cages.

For longer rides I carry a back pack w/2 tubes, 2 co2 cartridges, tire levers, a multi tool, a frame pump, 2 bottles of water, 2 bottes of water/gatorade mix, gels, a banana, energy bars and my cell phone. I will also have a couple of microfiber clothes to use as a sunglasses cleaners or rags to clean hands when my chain runs off etc.

Sometimes Ill carry an extra jersey or a pair of slides or flipflops.

holychipotle 05-28-12 08:06 AM

I put everything in my pockets.

Pocket 1 - Cell phone, Keys, and Credit Card/Cash
Pocket 2 - Flat repair (Tube, mini pump, tire lever, multi tool)
Pocket 3 - Food (Clif products)

Capecodder 05-28-12 08:48 AM

For those of you carrying everything in your jersey pockets, does the weight pulling down on your jersey bother you? I tried filling my pockets like this, and it felt very heavy.

rc51crazy 05-28-12 08:53 AM

What i carry is ride dependant. I don't use a seat pack..just have a zip lock bag in my jersey pokect w/
1 tube
2 tire levers
2 co2 cartridges
patch kit
valve adapter
shop rag (don't want my white bar tape to get dirty)
also in my jersey pockets
Cell phone
id
credit card
house key
snap & pops (great for stopping dogs..sometimes)
clif bar or powerbar

rearviewbeer 05-28-12 09:00 AM

2 water bottles, cc, $20, tube, co2, mini pump, iPhone on arm, some type of bar, smokes, mini vodka bottles, lighter...
