Looks like Cannondale didnt make enough Caad's!

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

So my wife decided on a Caad to race and they are pretty much sold out in many sizes. So if you are thinking about getting one and want it before the end of the summer dont wait! One shop I called did say Cannondale may lower the price of the Six Apex to the 105 Caad price to satisfy people in that price range, who knows though. Wife is bummed to say the least.

When do the new models come out? Might be by stock is running low. I didn't think there were much changes for '13 in the CAAD line. Maybe some new component groups?

If you know the size, and what you want, is buying online an option? I would think you could find some at the online sites.

With a quick look, Art's cyclery and Western Bike Works both seem to have some in stock.

I work for one of the largest Cannondale dealers in the country here in Indianapolis. For some odd reason Cannondale's calendar year runs from June to June. In other words they want to be out bicycles in and or around June! In our world that's just when things are heating up literally, it makes no sense to us as they expect dealers to "forecast" sales a year in advance so we don't run out of models....lol, our crystal ball doesn't like forcasting a year in advance.

I ordered one through my LBS. The frameset I wanted was sold out, so they called Cannondale to send a new frameset to the shop. Cannondale was/is backordered like hell, and for some reason it would take 6 weeks to receive a frameset only, as opposed to a complete bike which would take 4 weeks. Luckily the shop was nice enough to order the complete and strip it down except for the bb30 bearings for me. Seems like it's a way more popular frame than we thought.

As of 2 years ago when Doral bought Cannondale all models are now made overseas.

I got wind of this shortage coming in February when I got my CAAD 10 4 Rival. They couldn't get any 10 4 with a regular road double crankset and the Brushed Aluminum 10 4 was unavailable in any size (I am a 56cm,) the distributor said the sold fast this year.didn't bother me to buy the 10 4 in the blue/orange and I wanted the SRAM Rival anyway. The LBS had one 10 5 in 58cm but I didn't want the white colorway. I imagine the flood gates will open with 2013 models next month. Just a popular bicycle right now as it is a great buy with great components and a super frame.

The CAAD9 was the last "Handmade in USA" bike.

I was lucky enough to grab last one at my LBS. It was a CAAD9-6 in my size and I upgraded the parts to Ultegra.

It's because they raised the prices this year. People figure they have to buy this year before they come out with next year's model and raise them agin.

Well I tried all dealers within 100 miles of my house and nothing in a 48, I was told theres no 48's left from the factory, so I cant order. My locol dealer has two 48 Supersix's coming this week and I was promised the Apex for $1400.00 so thats what I am going to have to do for now. I think thats a great deal anyway. We'll have to get a Caad for her later this summer.

This was covered in the latest Bicycle Ratailer publication. Most of the major OEM's are running out of stock MUCH earlier than anticipated this year. Frame manufacturing works much the same way as snow throwers, lawn mowers, etc. It is seasonal and due to the length of the supply chain (3 months of sea shipment, etc) it requires the materials functions to work with sales and predict demand for the next season and put in orders to manufacture now - for next year. Once the frames/bikes arrive - you have what you have. Once they're gone they are gone.

When they run out early - like they did for everyone this year, well./...you just hope you plan better for next year.

Contrary to what the retail conditioned public believes, you can't just go, "Hey imaginary factory - whip up 20 more of those in size "s"". Just doesn't work that way. The component orders are in and gone with multi-month lead times and they don't sit with components on the shelves, wheels, accessories, not to mention the leadtime on raw materials - EG:carbon. Not too long ago - last fall - I was working in an industry where we dealt with forgings and castings where the leadtimes were into the 20-30 week range. This was your spot in the queue. It was mostly driven by raw material shortages, but also because when demand went back up - everyone is afraid of getting burned again and damn near refuses to add capacity.

The bicycle industry is way too small to affect anything in reality and major brand OEM's all decided to "plan better for next year". That's a quote direct from Specialized or Cannondale I believe.IIRC.

This is manufacturing and logistics - not the retail end of it. It's just how things work. Pick a different bike, wait for next year's models ( a few months out still), and put your order in early if you know exactly what you want.

Sheesh. I wish I was in the market now. I wouldn't complain about a SuperSix for that price, even if it's Apex.

Christ, the demand is high for these things, but I'm sure you've seen these two framesets (here and here) on eBay.

I'm REALLY curious to see what Cannondale puts out for 2013, seeing as the frameset's been so popular this year and last.

I did see those, thanks. Current bid of $600 on one, and $1200 asking for the other, with shipping, is a little more then I want to pay for a Caad frameset. The Six will be a great long term bike for her. We'll get a 2013 Caad for next crit season.

A contributing factor may be the lower empty beer can count on the side of the road these days. Fewer cans = fewer cans to recycle into more CAAD frames.

On the negative side, there are fewer CAAD's available. On the positive, the roads are much cleaner and safer as the result.
