Should I give a Ebay seller negative feedback
I bought a used set of Speedplay Stainless steel pedals off of Ebay. I knew that the condition was "used" but since the seller put that they only had 300 miles on them and included a new set of cleats I didn't expect anything other than wear. The left spindle is rounded out a little from wrench marks. The seller must have used an adjustable wrench and it slipped. My six year old pair of Light Action pedals do not have any wrench marks. The Ebay photo was small and it is difficult to see so I sent the seller an email before I bid asking him if the pedals had any scratches or damage but he didn't respond. The marks are cosmetic and do not effect the usability.
So, would you give the seller positive feedback?

Send a message to the seller with your complaints.
If he doesn't make good on it, then give him a negative rating.

1. post a decent quality pic here.
2. how much time before bidding did you give him to answer the question?
3. I agree that the first step is to message him and let him know that you are disappointed with the condition of the item, that the damage should have been disclosed in the auction and answered in your message-- assuming you gave him enough time to answer before your bid. if you ask and then bid anyway, not his fault, especially if you ask with <24 hrs remaining.
4. you can't give someone a negative without first trying to resolve the issue with them. so, what sort of remediation do you want-- full refund and return item? partial refund and keep the item? or what?

The ad says there are signs of cosmetic wear but the pedals operate as intended - is there truth to that? Then I see no issue here.

Ask for some money back. Might solve the issue. As long as they work who cares unless you paid too close to retail and were to believe they were basically new.

I'm going to say that is pretty dang close to retail (lowest found online)... price wise. I would not be keeping them/paying what you did.

They were listed as used and the marks are cosmetic, correct? I'd say negative feedback is a little harsh. Shoot the seller a message first and then consider neutral feedback. Otherwise, this is just part of the risk of ebay. Some people are pretty rough with their gear (even in 300 miles).

I agree- give him a chance to rectify the transaction... sounds like he won't, so then give him the bird. If you paid with PayPal, you could get your money back too.

Even if you take issue with the fact that he didn't respond to your question, you still bought them without that response, so the onus is on you, IMO.

I'd say contact him. Rounded wrench flats are more a functional than a cosmetic issue. If he doesn't respond, then consider negative feedback.

I agree with you. I think cleat marks on the pedals are wear and are part of the function of usage. Wrench marks are not part of wear.

I may not do anything and just live with the marks but I am not sure yet. I come here for expert advice and opinion as funny as that may sound. BF has been a good source of information and occassional entertainment.

If a normal sized wrench still slips on and it works, I think negative feedback is unjustified and you got what was described.

1) You asked the question - you didn't wait for a response before you bid. Your fault.
2) The ad clearly states they are used with signs of cosmetic wear with no impact on function. If the pedals can be installed properly and the cleats function, you have no case.
3) If you are going to leave negative feedback, i'd be curious to see what your comments would be. Seller didn't answer your question? How long did you wait for a response before bidding? Lied about the condition of the pedals? Did he really?

Post up some of your own photos so we can see the condition, you did buy used and he says that so its a toss up for me.
I'll ask more questions or ask for better photos most times but in the end buyer beware as they say.
If I did what you did I'd most likely suck it up and learn from it, unless they are unusable then I may think of action but used is used he did not say pedals are used everything else new which they are.

Like everyone else is saying...If they can be installed and are functional, where is the problem?

try to resolve any issues with the seller first. What he mmay consider cosmetic/functional may differ from your definition. But if the rounding is slight, and doesnt hinder them from being installed in a reasonable manner, then you got what you paid for.
